Rafael Barba deserved better. The SVU writers and producers decided to be weak cowards after s17 and did him dirty.
(Although tbh if it weren't for them Barisi might not be as strong so thanks for being cowards I guess)

Summary
ADA Rafael Barba has been a prosecutor for years. Respect is something he has had to earn over the years, from his youngest years as a "lucky enrollment" at Harvard. He had to fight for recognition and respect. And everyone else should as well, no matter how cute their smile is or how deep their dimples are or how tight their ass is in those pants. Rafael will resist it until his last breath is stolen from a source of Adonis-based beauty that cannot be real.
ADA Dominick Carisi, Jr. (but please, call him Sonny) has toured all five boroughs as an NYPD detective over the course of two years. But going to law school to become an AAD has been the first time it felt right. Although it's been hard for him to stay in one place, he knows he'll have to prove it more than ever, especially to someone with a mountain of experience. And he'll have to face off against said mountain, no matter the shade of his eyes or the flick of his tongue or the sway of his hips.
Rafael Barba and Sonny Carisi are ADAs for New York City County. Their similarities are overshadowed by their attempts to label one another as different. If they come to their senses, they may be able to see they are two sides of the same coin.

Klavier gets glasses, and that is the breaking point. The straw on the camel's back that makes him break down in tears as he realises that he looks exactly like the monster of a man that puppetted him for years.
How ironic, that the daughter of the man he was used to ruin would help him feel comforable in his own skin again.
