    Summary

The depths were always the loudest places.
To Etho, with his fox ears, it was always the hiss and grind of machinery, the buzz of electric lights, and the hum of redstone circuitry. This was the place he'd found his strengths, though, connections that now spanned all the under-city. He's walking back from checking in on one of his depots when he notices a chip in the wall. And isn't it strange?
How so much has changed, and so many years have gone by...and yet when he peers down the narrow alleyway, it looks exactly the same as it did that day. Like a snapshot frozen in time. From twenty years ago, when he'd seen colorful feathers and faces hardened to the hurt of a world he was far too familiar with...to the point where perhaps they were already broken.

But if he left them there, then he'd be admitting he'd shattered as well, and that was the last thing he could bear to allow as the truth. And if it wasn't true for him, then it wouldn't be for these kids, either.

    {In which Etho picks up some strays, Doc is not ready to be a father, the avian trio is weighing skepticism against pancakes, and all of them broke a long time ago...together though, maybe they can pull together something new.}

    -

Your job was an interesting one.

It wasn't bad, persay. It payed the bills and kept you off the streets. However, if you told yourself a few months ago that you'd be driving some of the most infamous people on the planet around in your tiny yellow taxi every day, you would've laughed and thrown yourself into a psych ward.

Yet here you are, stationed around Central City, Metropolis and Gotham. As you've recently realised, the people who hire your services are quite the colourful bunch, which has led to some- ahem- interesting conversations...

    Summary

The shadowy figure was dripping wet, dark wingtips dragging along the grass from exhaustion as they approached. He wore an eyepatch—just a rough, bloody strip of fabric tied around his head and matted into damp, muddy curls.

The red sweater was ripped and stained with a brown substance, the wings tattered with broken white feathers sticking out at odd angles.

Scar felt his mouth go dry and his insides tense in fear. “G… Grian?” What was wrong with him?

The figure took another step forward before latching onto the front of Scar’s shirt with dirty fingers. His remaining, red-tinted eye looked deep into Scar’s, like it was trying to see his soul.

“You’re not my Scar, are you?” He said.

    Summary

His father is on him in a second, pinning him back against the cabinets behind him with impressive speed for a man who was in a coma mere months ago. “They aren’t your family, I am,” he snarls in his face. “And someday you’re going to learn to respect that.”

Some frayed thread of self-control, worn thin by years of this bullshit, finally snaps. “I was always here, I was always ready for you to come home and act like family,” he spits back, heart pounding in his chest. “You were the ones who never wanted to be. Bruce Wayne has acted like more of a father to me than you ever have.”

Jack’s hands move from pinning his shoulders to wrapping around his throat in the space between heartbeats. Tim should be able to break the hold, easy. Should be able to push him away, strike his legs out from under him even without his bo staff to help him. He’s Robin.

Instead, cold ice spills through his veins, freezing him in place even as his windpipe buckles.
