The first time it happens, Harry initially doesn’t think anything of it.
He thinks that maybe he’s just revisiting the memory Tom Riddle showed him in his diary - until, with a morbid, thrilling sense of curiosity, he starts to notice the differences.
This Riddle looks younger - his eyes are still a normal dark brown, not yet tinted red. He’s already a prefect though. Harry quickly notices the glimmering badge, because Riddle keeps re-adjusting it, his long, slender fingers brushing over the badge again and again, as he walks down a seemingly deserted corridor.
Harry rolls his eyes, huffing exasperatedly, trying to ignore the goosebumps forming on his arms. Of course, the one night he’s spared from nightmares, his brain just has to conjure up this vision of arrogant, vain, perfect Tom Riddle obsessing over his prefect badge.Or: the post-war AU in which Harry visits the 1940s in his dreams and ends up befriending a young Tom Riddle ...
