Summary
What he saw was impossible—a figment of his imagination because no, Scott felt his soul being ripped apart. He couldn’t be back, not now and not ever. But then how could Scott explain the creature that was in front of him?
It was the picture of a monster, and yet Scott felt tears of blood well up in his eyes, not from fear—no, nothing scared Scott Goldsmith—but from genuine despair and emotion because this ‘creature’ was wearing a painfully familiar outfit.
The cloak was still red, of course it was, only a slightly deeper shade with fresh blood added to the mix, and it matched Scott’s own so perfectly. A black vest was torn in the front, a huge gaping hole leading straight into the monster's chest with splinters of wood wedged painfully in its skin. There was only one person he knew that had ever worn that outfit besides himself so many years ago, and that person was dead, staked through the heart, but what was this if not him?
“Avid…?” Scott whispered into the wind desperately.

Emerging from his coffin had breathed into his body the humanity Scott had been missing since his slumber. He found himself getting attached to his crazy roomate, Shelby's incessant ramblings entertaining and interesting. He cared for Owen, the hurt fledgling clearly still grieving, a feeling Scott knew far too well. His first fledgling Pyro reminded him of his past childes, their loss felt in his chest like his heart had been ripped out. The bond between sire and fledgling was sacred, and Scott knew that his coven was gone, scattered to the wind. He could pretend they weren't dead, simply having fled upon the cleric's sorcery.
But as much as he could try and convince his

Avid activates the bat transformation an instant before Pyro and Owen drive the stake through his heart. He does not escape the consequences of the attack, though. Unable to shift back or draw on his vampirism, Avid is now stuck as a bat with his vocal cords shredded by the stake.
To the rest of Oakhurst? The first of the coven members has fallen to the hands of his fellow vampires.

The vampire was pulled from his thoughts abruptly. Scott looks up, confused. That voice sounded so familiar and yet was from neither of his partners. He searched the crowded street and was met with deep purple eyes. The man wore a green scarf and white vest.
Scott's cup fell to the floor, red liquid painting the snow.
"Scott?" Jimmy looks over at Scott worried. "What happened?"
He pulls his hand out of Tango's jacket and takes a shaky step toward. It's almost like he's back there, centuries ago when he had a family. A coven he'd made his own.
"Avid?"

Glitches weren't uncommon, to the point where most wouldn't look twice; of course they get a bit hard to ignore when they keep repeating, especially when it might not just be a glitch. When it might be something much bigger, and much, much more dangerous.

Scar notices something off about Grian, and when it gets to the point where he can no longer ignore it, things may not end with a simple answer to a question, after all, the smallest of winds can turn to a storm if the weather is rough enough.

Summary
Though, at the time Scott hated the idea, and thought that bringing an unpredictable creature back to Oakhurst was a bad idea. Now, however, he wished that he had allowed Avid to take the toothy beast home, if only to give the young vampire a greater chance at living and making it out of Oakhurst in a semi-alive state.
Or; Scott goes insearch for Squishy all the while he's still deeply mouring the loss of the first person who shown him unconditional love.

Scott would come for him though, surly. Avid still had his diamond pickaxe he gave him. Once he had enough strength, he would climb out and Scott would be waiting. He wouldn't get his hands dirty, but he would be there all the same, waiting for his fledgling to climb out.
Once he had enough strength.
Basically Scott finds Avid, very much not dead, but he's not exactly the same either.
