Spanning from the day Alexandra de Sardet first learns she's going to be leaving for Teer Fradee until the final confrontation at Anemhaid, tracing the development of her relationship with a certain captain of the Coin Guard. A prequel to After the End and Return to Serene, it originated as a "flesh out the cutscenes" project and became a full novelization of the game, expanding on all the characters' arcs, friendships, and character development.
In terms of content warnings, it contains everything the game does, notably: violence, mentions of rape, mentions of past sexual abuse (including childhood sexual abuse), and that major character death at the end. Chapters with such content are labeled in that chapter's notes, as are the NSFW Kurt/de Sardet chapters, which are explicit but not graphic.
Fic is complete and has been revised to be fully canon-compliant, albeit with Greedfall taking precedence when/where The Dying World contradicts it. If you find any typos, editing mistakes, etc., please let me know so I can fix!

"If I leave the Veil in place, I am destroying the world she wanted. And I will have," he stuttered, "she, will have died for nothing."
Her heart was breaking. Before her and inside her. Her Pride was shattered. So, it would make sense now to turn away. All the same, she would sooner be destroyed at his heel than alone in a world without him.
There was no honour in it, sure, but it was the truth of the thing.
She would allow him his final betrayal. She would accept it; forgive it as the price of loving him.

Rook dies stopping Solas's ritual. Fortunately, Inquisitor Lavellan has never been one to leave the difficult tasks to others... especially when it's about putting false gods in their place and setting right what her former lover broke for a second time.
An AU retelling of Veilguard, in which Lavellan takes Rook's place. Ellana takes over assembling the Veilguard, all the while managing the former Inquisition. She uses her connection to Solas to try and figure out how to unite diverse factions against the Evanuris, all the while torn between her lingering love for him and the knowledge that he cannot be trusted fully, even as old and new friends and enemies return.
Meanwhile, a trapped Solas finds his new situation to be a surprising way to show Ellana unexpected truths about the world and himself that he could never have given her a decade ago. However, the past doesn't let go easily, and he finds the dreamscapes he invites her to difficult to craft as an unseen enemy works to wrestle control away from him and have its revenge for past wrongs.
A storm is coming. Where lightning strikes, thunder is never far behind.
