Non ricorda chi sia stato a sferrare il primo pugno, o come e quando siano finiti sul pavimento di camera loro, ma Simone dapprima ringrazia qualsiasi santo esista in paradiso che non ci sia nessuno in Villa a quest’ora, e poi apprende di aver ripreso a respirare nell’esatto momento in cui s’è ritrovato le mani di Manuel addosso.
In questa situazione ci sono finiti almeno una ventina di volte solo fino all’anno prima. La farsa che stavano disperatamente cercando di portare avanti, quella dei “migliori amici”, fratelli o quant’altro, non era destinata ad avere vita lunga.
È giusto un tantino incredulo che la goccia a far traboccare il vaso sia lui che si porta a letto un altro.

Charles reaches out to catch it before it can hit Max again, putting his reflexes to good use. Next to Lando, Carlos nods his approval at the catch.

Max almost choked in surprise. He turned to Charles again and Charles was leaning back in his chair, squinting into the telescope, which was pointed right up above him.
"Yeah?" Max managed to say.
Charles put down the telescope and nodded. "I used to get these really nice flowers on my skin. And really beautiful, intricate patterns. I loved them. I took them as little gifts from my soulmate to me."
"That's nice," Max smiled. He hadn't imagined it would make him so happy that Charles liked his little skin drawings.
"They've stopped, though." Charles absentmindedly ran his fingers over his arm. "I don't know why. Maybe they got busy. I hope they're fine."

“Oh, good,” Charles says, even more relieved. “Do you know people write about celebrities?”
Max rolls his eyes. “I’ve been briefed by PR, yeah.”
Charles flops down on the lounge, Sassy and Jimmy long gone, and props his feet up on the coffee table. Max rolls his eyes again, then sits down next to him. He and Charles are friends, kind of, and certainly closer now that they’ve ever been before, but he’s never really witnessed Charles having a PR-related meltdown before. They’re not that close.
Oh, well. A first time for everything, he supposes.
“Great!” Charles says cheerily, then unlocks his phone and shoves it in Max’s face. “Do you also know that we’re ranked second on Archive of Our Own?”
