Having done his duty in the war against the Tsaritsa Zhongli, Duke of Lapis, is hoping to live a quiet and mostly withdrawn life alongside his patchwork pack and avoid the politics and unrest that is sure to follow the ceasefire and proposed blending of their societies. He's very aware that monsters and the humans who hate them can't hope to ever find true peace.
Which makes his intervention in the execution of the Eleventh Harbinger all the more surprising, especially to himself. Still what is done is done and when the Twin Kings order him to marry the Tsaritsa's most dangerous solider, and make a show of integrating him to proper society there isn't much to do but grit his fangs and accept. The plan is marriage of convivence, with separate lives lead once eyes are off of them. It should be easy enough, shouldn't it? (If only he could get his unruly, conniving, manipulative, entirely enthralling and addicting husband to agree.)
