You just need the self-assurance to see that, and maybe if you got a bit of practice dating-wise, you’ll start to view it that way too,” Oluwande explained.A lot has changed for Stede Bonnet over the past year. He's discovered that he's gay, amicably separated from his wife, and founded a (soon-to-be) hopping gay bar. He's garnered many new experiences as of late, but the one thing he hasn't been able to track down yet is love. Burned out on dating apps, he takes his worker's advice and seeks out companionship of a sugaring kind. However, Edward Teach seems to be so much more than he had bargained for.

And what's important to understand is that boredom doesn't work the same way for Edward Teach. Other people, when they're bored, get a little restless, a little frustrated maybe, but it's not the end of the world.
For Ed, boredom is the end of the world.
At least that's what it feels like. When Ed is bored—as in, capital B Bored—all his senses malfunction. The touch of a fine fabric is the same as the touch of splintered wood. He can no longer taste the sugar in the marmalade he slathers on his morning bread. The salty scent of the ocean air is absent. Every sound is too abrasive, even if it's something he usually enjoys, like the sound of Frenchie strumming his lute, or the crew chattering and giggling.
Also he can no longer see color, and that's the worst of all.

He could see the shape of that hair in the moonlight, the pale mop of ginger-gold, plus a sliver of Stede’s face where it was turned away. He could hear every time the other man shifted or sighed or snored. He could feel his warmth, inches away, even though Ed was carefully not touching. Awareness of Stede pulsed through him, slow and bright like the beacon of a lighthouse, and Ed didn’t get to sleep for a long time."
A series of lengthening snapshots of the times Ed and Stede have shared sleep, shared a bed, and eventually, shared each other.

“Love is strange,” Stede replied, his eyes fixed on Ed’s lips.
Ed leaned in closer. “That, I agree with.”----
It has been a couple of months since Stede and Ed reunited and made up, and they're co-captains on the Revenge. A wayward merchant vessel seems like an easy target for a raid, until one of the sailors on board baits Ed into a duel. Ed and Stede have a fight about the fallout, and eventually make up. A lot.

Perhaps passing a cigarette back and forth with a man with dark hair and kind eyes, an almost kiss shared between them as they each placed the cigarette between their lips and inhaled. Perhaps he would meet a real ruffian, a genuine bootlegger, like the legendary Blackbeard himself. Did bootleggers stick around to have a drink after they dropped off their merchandise? Stede supposed even proper maniacs might like to enjoy some music and a cocktail in between rum running and shootouts with the police, or whatever else bootleggers and mobsters got up to.”
