It was a year after the war and Squall had found Seifer outside the door of his old dorm, finally accepting the invitation back from Edea who had refused to relent, surprising Squall who had been away for a mission. Their eyes had met in the dim after-curfew lighting, the only two in the empty hallway, and Seifer had lifted his chin, obstinate and arrogant and challenging. Then that smirk lifted his lips and he was brushing past Squall, unclipping his gunblade from his hip to swing it up on his shoulder, checking the bullets almost carelessly, and Squall was behind him, following him like a dark lion stalking the shadow of his prey, or like a beast pulled along on a leash, fingers on the handle of his own weapon.
