Summary
The prince straightens up and his gaze is sapphire steel, sharp and stinging.
“I don’t like you. Actually, I just hate you.”
Gladiolus stops in his tracks, because he didn’t expect that. The absolute honesty in Noctis’s voice, the absence of a lie.
Hurt glances across his heart, before he wrangles it down and spits back, “Yeah. So do I.”
The doors to the training room slam behind him.
That was the first time they said that to each other. It wouldn’t be the last.
(or: the 5 times Gladiolus and Noctis say they hate each other, and the many times they don’t.)

Summary
Gladiolus wishes he didn’t make a little squeak when the prince definitely-not-accidentally pushes Ignis into his chest.
Ignis wishes he didn’t just freeze up and blush like a tomato he had gotten from the market when his hands collide with Gladiolus’s firm abs.
Fuck, the both of them think.
“Uh. See you soon,” the Shield finally manages to eke out, sidestepping away from the retainer like a panicked crab.
Again, Noctis and Prompto look at each other, another thought passes through them. They’re completely stupid for each other.
“Yeah, see you soon.” The prince and his best friend wave the ex-retainers for the night out the door.
This could either crash and burn, or it will be the one of the greatest nights of their lives.

Summary
“I don’t get it. Why does that matter?”
“Because if we do this…” Ignis’s other hand moves sluggishly, as if he was trying to stop it, but it was hooking at Noctis’s hair anyway. “If we do this, we don’t know what kind of future we’ll have. It could change our destinies.”
The prince takes these words in, and he’s not sure what to think. Ignis wasn’t joking, he knew that, and could sense it in his tone. So he tries to understand, and steps closer again, letting their noses brush.
“Then tell me what destiny we have if I don’t kiss you,” he whispers between them. “Tell me what will happen if we don’t risk it.”
or Ignis’s and Noctis’s first kiss, and what comes after.

Sometimes, the blond wonders what it’d be like to travel back to middle school, when he was no one, just a boy with his camera and too low self-esteem. You’re gonna learn how to be strong, you’re gonna make someone happy. You’re gonna be the reason those people live on.
He knows that little Prompto would have found it hard to believe.

Summary
When he’s alone, he imagines.
He imagines this world, open blue sky, green grass rustling underneath. He pictures a two-story house, not too big, not too small. Just right.
Not an apartment, not a mansion. Just a house that felt like home.
And in this house, there’d be a person, sitting near the window, looking out and up at the clouds. He’d have bandages on his face, and headphones around his neck.
Murasaki would go to him.

“What’s your name?” the soldier barks at him as they march him along, to a series of flying machines, the same ones the boy saw in the sky so many times. “I can’t just call you kid.”
He’s pushed along, and he wishes for once in his life that the clouds hanging in the sky would clear, so he could see the sun, just once.
“…Prompto.”

Summary
“Aaagh.” The samurai scratches at the back of his neck. “Stop making fun of my nicknames for you! Come on, let’s get going!”
Eight looks at the hand outstretched for him, smirks and decides to stop giving Jack grief, taking it and letting the other pull him up. “And what thing did you decide you wanted to include me in this time?”
“It’s not anything too scary.” The blond cheekily looks back at him as they make their way out of the dormitory. “Actually, it’s all about you!”

Summary
Three days until Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum’s birthday.
Prompto marks the day down on his calendar, bobs his head up and down surely, before he changes into his running wear, a simple T-Shirt and gym shorts.
“Chocobo greens, chocobo greens, that’s what happiness to a chocobo means!”
It’s crazy to think about, that his best friend had never even had a fun birthday celebration. Sure, there were parades and famous celebrities singing in Noctis’s honor, but he never had a party, right at home, with anyone.
When Prompto heard about that, he had to amend it, ASAP. This was the first time he ever did something like this too, and he won’t even dare to screw it up.

Summary
Sure, Noctis is more on the softer side of royalty. His smiles are genuine, his humor actually funny. His kindness, real. He has a little bit of a bratty, grumpy, near immature nature.
The kind that makes you think that he’s the type that likes to be overpowered. The kind that you enjoy bringing to his knees. The kind that likes the suffering you put him through.
But what if that was to switch around?
