Stiles very slowly reached up with both hands and covered his neck as best he could before whispering, “Are you Vampires?”
“What? No.” Derek couldn’t help the small laugh of disbelief that slid up his throat, crossing his arms defensively over his chest. It didn’t matter that he was thousands of years old, or that he was bigger and stronger than Stiles was. Somehow, he was pretty sure once this conversation was over, Stiles was going to be able to crush him like a bug, and he hated that feeling.
“Didn’t you say he was smart?” Boyd asked.
“Hey,” Stiles insisted, turning to him with a glare but not removing his hands from his neck. “Vampires is a perfectly logical guess in this case. And he said I was right on the Supernatural front. Vampires are Supernatural.”
“He said you weren’t wrong,” Boyd corrected. “Not that you were right.”
“Well, the opposite of wrong is right, so...” Stiles gave him a look, but turned back to Derek relatively quickly, as if realizing he was delaying his own answers.
“We’re not Vampires,” Derek said, then let out a small sigh before admitting, “we’re immortal.”

“What the fuck!” Stiles flailed away from hot lifeguard man, one leg still caught beneath the other’s tail—his fucking tail! Like, a real tail!—before he managed to pull it free and scramble back.
The man—merman? Fish-person!—sat up then as Stiles scrambled backwards, levelling him with an unimpressed look and letting some of his weight rest against his hands behind himself on the sand.
Stiles pointed at his face, then his tail, then back at his face. “You’re a—you’re a—you’re a—”
“You’re welcome,” hot lifeguard merman said, rolling his eyes and shifting so that his tail was bent and out towards the side, sitting up properly and eying Stiles with a critical eye. “You hit your head pretty hard. Are you okay?”
“Clearly not!” Stiles shouted. “I am obviously hallucinating!”

It only took five seconds for Stiles Stilinski to open the door, and the second his eyes landed on who was on the other side, his face shuttered.
“No.” He slammed the door in Derek’s face.
Or, he tried to, but Derek reached one hand out and pressed it to the wood, stopping him from succeeding.
“Hello to you, too.”
“You can’t be here, it’s exam period,” Stiles insisted, hand still on the knob but not trying to slam it a second time. “I need to focus. I need to be on my game to keep my grades up. You’re distracting.”
“How am I distracting?” Derek demanded, arching an eyebrow.
Stiles gave him a look, and then emphatically motioned Derek from head to toe a few times.

“Why not?” Stiles asked, confused and still half-asleep. He yawned as he rubbed both hands across his face again, and then froze at the next words out of Jeremy’s mouth.
“I figured you’d spend the weekend with your boyfriend.”
His what?
“My what?” he asked aloud.
“Your boyfriend,” Jeremy said, tilting his head slightly in confusion. “The angry, overprotective dude who came to get you? You could’ve just told us it was your boyfriend you know, you didn’t have to give us the song and dance ‘he’s my dad’s deputy’ routine. I kind of figured out you were lying about that in first year when you moved in with him for the summer.”
Stiles stared at him, completely flabbergasted about this entire situation.
“What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Derek,” Stiles whined, stretching the vowels out much more than was necessary.
“What?”
“I’m so hot.”
“And?”
Stiles reached out one hand to smack blindly towards Derek’s face. He missed entirely for about five smacks before giving up and smacking him in the side instead. Derek didn’t react, because it hadn’t been intended to hurt him, just show him Stiles was displeased with his lack of sympathy.
He knew it was all a very unsubtle way to convince Derek to buy a portable A/C unit, but he refused. Not because he wanted Stiles to suffer, but because if Stiles was comfortable, he wouldn’t wander around the loft in his underwear. Derek was not going to give up having a mostly naked boyfriend parading around the place.
Did that make him an asshole? Probably, but Stiles knew what he was signing up for when they started dating two years ago. Derek was living up to his assholeish reputation by refusing to buy an A/C unit so he could ogle his boyfriend as he wandered around the loft mostly naked.

“Like what?” Derek asked.
“Well,” Stiles said, dragging the word out while stretching his arms forward on the table until he could close his hands around both of Derek’s. “My friend Mieka and I have been bonding over the past few months, and she just got a puppy, and she thought it might be fun for the two of us to bring our dogs to the dog park right outside town.”
Derek stared at him exceptionally hard. “You don’t have a dog.”
“I—why are you and dad the same?” Stiles let Derek’s hands go to throw both arms in the air. “Yes, Derek, I am aware I don’t have a dog!”
“So what exactly is this conversation leading to?” Derek asked, crossing his arms over his chest and looking thoroughly unimpressed.
Stiles licked his lips before pressing them together, trying to think of the best way to word this before blurting out, “In my defence, it was entirely dad’s idea! I wanted to steal a dog from the clinic!”
