“I wonder if he’ll digest it,” muses Gojo, tapping a finger to his chin. He smiles at Megumi. “It’s probably a wonderful source of protein, though I can’t imagine it’s very fun to go down. Do you think I should buy something for Itadori’s throat in case the nail scraped him on the way down? Or perhaps something to deal with the aftertaste?”
“Mouthwash.”
“Or sake,” Gojo adds, and his tone is so non-joking, so serious, that Megumi stares at him.
“You do realize that we’re all—”
“Right, right,” interrupts Gojo, waving a hand in the air. “I forgot. I’ll just get him mouthwash. Let’s stop by the convenience store on the way back.”

It’s selfish. It’s the truth. A truth he’s had to come to terms with more than ever considering just how close death’s circled them in the past year. So the fact he feels like he’s right on the edge of— he doesn’t even know, something bad, something that could take Suguru from him—

‘We never eat together.’ He thinks, remembering all the dinners Gojo buys or supervises the making of before promptly leaving Tsumiki and Megumi, wishing them a goodnight. It makes no sense.
“What’s with that look?” Gojo has his glasses down on his nose, eyes bright. He grumbles, skin prickling with the stare, and pushes past Gojo for the kitchen. Gojo rolls his eyes and says something under his breath while Megumi climbs onto his chair. Before him is his bowl, steaming with vegetables and meat and flavour and opposite Megumi, the other ready seat has a steaming bowl too. Gojo’s eating with him. His phone is still lighting up with an unreadable name. It makes no sense.

The first time Suguru is woken up by the sounds of the girls’ night terrors, for a short, fleeting moment he confuses them for the cries of his mother, as several of his curses descended on her, tearing her body apart.
Except, in reality, he never gave her the chance for exclamations of shock, tears of betrayal or desperate pleas for life.
After all, his mother couldn’t see curses right up until their claws reached for her eyes. Then she couldn’t see at all but it didn’t matter as she was a lifeless shapeless heap of meat in a matter of moments anyway.
