Sally’s gut twisted again, though it felt different this time. It wasn’t a warning anymore. It was a realization.
Up until now, they had all been playing pretend. She’d known from the start that he was a famous driver. However, she hadn’t truly known. Hadn’t realized. Trapped in their small, forgotten town, it had been too easy to interpret his stories about Los Angeles and some big tiebreaker race as a sort of fairytale. As a distant fantasy.
Now, the future had transformed into a cruel kind of present that Sally couldn’t wrap her rapidly beating heart around. She needed to find Lightning. Needed to… to… So say goodbye, or… or something.

A glint of navy and a familiar outline parked next to the crew chief stand has his head spinning, and he unconsciously rises out of his chair to get a closer look. Feeling slightly dazed, he begins.
“Hey, did that look like-”
Before he can finish his sentence, the image cuts to an overview of McQueen’s pit crew, finally landing on a close up of his new crew chief. Gray haired and stern faced, barking instructions into the head piece. The announcer cuts him off.
“Darrell, it appears McQueen has got himself a pit crew, and look who he has for a crew chief.”
It can’t be, Smokey thinks, eyes glued to the scream. Louise has his arm in a vice grip. He can feel the crescents of her nails digging into his skin.
“Wow, this is history in the making! Nobody has seen the racing legend in over fifty years!”
For a moment the entire bar goes dead quiet, and Smokey's mind goes blank.

Summary
Under floating buildings are a series of blinking antennas, Din glances at them, only to assure they aren’t going to smack into the Crest, or restrict his escape any further. It takes a glance, then another one, to see the thing clinging to one of the blinking antennas. Din squints, feels his stomach fall as the thing, person, slips. Barely holding on, hanging upside down over an infinite drop. He’s shoving his helmet back over his face and steering his ship down, before Din can think better of it.
The wind howls past his ears as he leans out of a service hatch at the top of the Razor Crest. The ship is cruising, with the little ability it has to do that without a co-pilot or a droid. Din probably has a few seconds to get in and out.
“Hey!” Din’s voice is snatched by the wind, stolen right out of his lungs, but the person turns to look at him. “Let go!”
The man’s face is a mess of bruises and cuts. Blood has crusted along his forehead. Din can’t tell what color his hair is. It's so matted by blood, washed rusty in the Bespin evening. His lips part, hand flexing where it’s collapsed around metal.
“Let go,” Din says again, “I’ll catch you!”
