Summary
Smoke swirls lazily in the air, the scent of cigarettes mixing with the scent of beer and half-warm coke. Ponyboy always smokes when he watches the sunset, it’d be too painful without nicotine to calm him. Two-Bit isn’t watching the sunset, just staring at it blankly as he takes swigs from an almost-empty bottle.
Ponyboy and Two-Bit have their addictions, but they also have each other.

Seeing their tired faces light up when they come home to delicious home cooked meal, watching them smile when they put on clothes that are still warm from Pony’s ironing, listening to their ‘thank you’s when Pony splurges and buys something nice for them like a bag of their favorite snacks; all of it fills Pony with a warmth that not even sunrises can compete with. But sometimes it’s just so fucking exhausting.

Walking in after a late shift at Bucks, Johnny sighs and slips off his shoes - something he’s never had to do until Ponyboy insisted that everyone take their shoes off before entering the apartment. Usually he doesn’t mind it; it’s such a simple thing, and it makes Ponyboy happy to see everyone’s shoes neatly lined up by the door instead of on people’s feet, tracking dirt everywhere. But today it feels like the hardest thing ever, after the tiring day he’s had.

Summary
Pony hates when the others are out. Maybe it comes from having lived in a loud, crowded house most of his life, but the apartment is uncomfortable without at least one of them there with him. Johnny and Dally always make sure to be back by dinner, and if they’ll be late then they always give the apartment a call. But right now, that knowledge is the reason why Pony hasn’t stopped pacing around for the past thirty minutes. It’s only thirty minutes past the time they’re usually home, but Pony can’t help but worry. The only thing that keeps him from going insane every day is the fact that he’ll always know exactly when they get home, and now they aren’t home.
