Perhaps it should have been no surprise that the earliest memory she could remember was of Pure Vanilla—at the very, very beginning, when they both attended the Blueberry Yogurt Academy—and that it had not been a breathtaking encounter nor a special meeting, but simply a very, very mundane moment.
It surprises her though, that she remembers this memory.

“No,” Kaveh says, thinking. “With my luck, if I did know him already, then he would probably be the worst person I know. Someone like Al-Haitham.” The thought is so absurd that he stops and laughs. “But that would be fucking awful.”
In Kaveh's humble opinion, the title for The Worst Guy In The World is tied between four people: the asshole in his Tuesday eight am, the employee behind the library email account, the guy writing the university's advice column, and the student that the professor he assists always complains about.
It would only be too convenient if they were all the same person. (They are.)

She showed up at Kris’s door with her hood up and her tail twitching, smelling like smoke that wasn’t hers. She had one of her mother’s old flannels tied around her waist, the sleeves long and dragging. Kris didn’t ask. Just stepped aside.
Toriel, from the kitchen, poked her head out and said only: “Shoes off, dear. I just mopped.”
Like Susie belonged there.
Like she wasn’t a guest anymore.
Kris gave her the couch and curled up on Chariel. Susie protested, at first—“It’s your damn house, dude,” she said, “I can sleep on the floor, I’ve done it before”—but Kris was already half-buried in blankets and completely silent, which meant the conversation was over.
At some point, when the house had gone completely quiet and the shadows settled, Susie whispered:
“Hey.”
Kris shifted their head to look at her.
The moonlight caught her hair, the jagged edge of her teeth. Her eyes were clearer than they ever were at school. No posturing. No sneer. Just Susie. Bare and real in a borrowed T-shirt, her knees pulled up, her voice a rasp.

It’s quaint, in a nauseating sort of way. Polished floors glint from the gleaming honeycomb chandeliers overhead, make him squint. A few vases sprinkled here and there, filling the room with a sickeningly sweet scent – even a waffle-cone headrest framing the silken sheets of a neatly-tucked bed. Outside, the golden sun gleams, the gentle rays of light spilling past curtains that waver in the afternoon breeze.
It's meant to be beautiful. Luxurious. Welcoming.
With one sweep of his cane, Shadow Milk tears it apart.

The words fell into the room like a stone tossed into still water, the ripple spreading through March’s chest. Her heart stuttered, and she blinked up at him, her bright smile flickering like a candle caught in a draft. “What?” she breathed, the surprise in her tone so sharp it almost stung.
“I said I’ll go if Stelle goes,” Dan Heng repeated, oblivious to the crack forming in her expression. “Aeons, March, you should really turn down the volume when you wear those headphones. You’re going to go deaf at this rate.”
“Oh, haha—r-right,” March stammered, forcing a shaky laugh. Beneath the cheerful facade, a flicker of loneliness sparked deep in her chest, a tiny ember that threatened to smolder into something more painful if she let it linger. “I’ll… I’ll be sure to ask,” she murmured.
The smile on her lips wavered, a fragile thing caught in the gust of her disappointment. Why did it hurt so much? It wasn’t like she didn’t understand—Stelle was a close friend. But she couldn’t help but wish, just once, that he’d say yes just for her.
A slow burn fic of euphoric episodes where March slowly realizes that she’s no longer the most important person in Dan Heng’s life.
