Summary
His grandmother was the one who taught Gen about their connection.
Someone else might have called it magic, or a power, or a gift. But she never used any of those words. “It’s simply what we are,” she told him. “A conversation between us and the land.”
The spirits of the place - root, leaf, cloud, river, stone - spoke to them. And they could speak back, even command to a gentle extent. Gen’s grandmother could coax stubborn plants into flourishing, call a storm’s attention until it gathered overhead, or listen to the wind mutter news from distant hills. She said every human had a connection to the earth’s spirit, but most were deaf to it. Gen and his grandmother, though - theirs ran deep. Deeper than reason, deeper than blood.

Gen is magic. This changes everything.

Summary
“As for Ukyo, he’s the traitor of the Empire of Might,” Yo says. “Don’t get too close to him; he’ll stab you in the back.”
Finally. Something new.
“Do tell,” Ryusui says. He’ll take this all with a grain of salt, but this is something he hasn’t heard before.
Yo grins, visibly thrilled that he’s managed to pique Ryusui’s interest. “He was one of Tsukasa’s foremost lieutenants,” he says gleefully, “but he went behind Tsukasa’s back and made a deal with Senku and Gen. He even let Chrome go when he was a prisoner of war, the bastard. Lied with a smile, too. You can’t trust someone like that - you never know what they’re thinking. Push comes to shove, Ukyo’ll put himself first.”
--
Chrome, Senku, and Gen are all pretty easy for Ryusui to figure out. Ukyo, though, is another story.

Summary
"“What a surprise to see you here, Gen Asagiri,” the man says. He appears to be in his fifties, maybe - graying hair at the roots that fades to youthful black at the tips, like a photograph developing in reverse. His beard is unshaven, a patchy constellation of salt and pepper, but his eyes are impossibly young.
They gleam with mischief, intelligence, and something else - something old and knowing. He watches Gen with open amusement, like someone who just found an unexpected letter in a familiar book. “I didn’t expect you. I’ve been trying for Yuzuriha or Taiju since I can’t get to Senku.”"
After the petrification, Gen starts dreaming of a man who died 3,700 years ago.

Summary
When they’d first met, just after Ryusui had been revived, Ryusui had made his move. He wasn’t one to wait. He’d found Ukyo finishing up making a new batch of arrows, had snapped his fingers in front of his face, and leaned in, flashing a grin and said, plainly, “I desire you.”
It usually worked. Or if not worked, at least provoked a reaction. A blush, a laugh, annoyance - something. Ryusui was a lot, and he knew it. But he was also handsome, clever, and confident enough to get away with being a lot. People reacted.
Instead, Ukyo had raised a single eyebrow and said, “I’m a wait-for-the-third-date kind of guy,” in the same tone he might use to comment on the weather. Then he’d turned and walked off to go spar with Kohaku, leaving Ryusui standing there like a fish gasping on the beach.
--
Ukyo's pretty clearly not impressed with Ryusui. And that would be fine, except Ryusui has started to cough up flowers, and Ruri's telling him it's because he's in love with someone who doesn't love him back.

Summary
“I’m not pining,” Ryusui mutters.
“You’re pining,” Chrome says, dropping into a nearby chair. “You’re being all broody.”
“How am I being broody? I’m fine. Look at me, being fine.”
“You have tragic protagonist energy right now,” Gen says, matter-of-fact. “All that staring off into the middle distance and sighing? It’s like reading Jane Austen. Honestly, I thought you were gonna be the suave one in the group.”
Ryusui groans, leaning his head back against the chair. “I am the suave one.”
“Then go be suave at Ukyo if you want to smooch him that bad,” Chrome says, as if it’s obvious.
“He might be in love with Sai,” Ryusui says miserably, and yeah, okay, maybe he’s a sad sack.
--
Ryusui's twenty-nine, and the world is rebuilding. He's also in love with Ukyo, but Ukyo's spending a lot of time with Sai, and Ryusui's not sure what to do. Three of the Five Wise Generals are unhelpful.

Summary
The villain is in front of him, poking at the puddle of blood spreading out from Shouta’s wound, looking bemused. “I know you’re there,” the guy says, casually. “This is part of my Quirk. I rub this goo on my knives - it binds the spirit to the body. You’re not dead, just having a near-death experience. You’ll come back. Or not. Depends. Someone’s going to have to kiss you to fix this. Like a fairytale.” He grins. He’s got nicer teeth than a villain who looks like he eats out of a dumpster should.
Shouta stares at him. Then at himself - his graying face, the puddle of blood.
“Of course,” he mutters. “Fucking weirdo villains and their fucking weird fixations.”
--
Shouta's not sure he wants to be alive, but he's also not committed to the idea of dying. A stabbing while stopping a mugging makes him think about what he actually wants.

Summary
There’s something addictive about how unfiltered Ryusui is. Something dangerous, too. Ukyo is used to reading silence, to finding meaning in what’s not said. But Ryusui doesn’t do silence. He shouts his feelings to the world, and sometimes, Ukyo doesn’t know how to respond. Sometimes, it feels like standing too close to the sun, brilliant and burning and impossible to look away from.
--
Ukyo's sometimes glad the world ended. He can't really say that, though, so he'll just sing instead.

Summary
"I sang a lot growing up," Ukyo says. "Music was very important to my family. The day of the petrification, I was supposed to go meet one of my cousins for a karaoke night.”
Gen’s eyes brighten. “Dear Ukyo, are you telling me you’ve been hiding a musical talent all this time?”
Ukyo smiles, almost shy but clearly pleased. “Guess so. I’m out of practice, but I can still carry a tune.”
Gen leans forward, absolutely delighted. “We are absolutely having a performance night. You can sing, I can do magic. I’ll make a stage, I’ll get dear Yuzuriha to make you something indecent for you to wear - oh, the possibilities!”
Senku forces himself to keep walking, though their voices follow him, threaded through with laughter. It’s nothing, he tells himself. Just a conversation about music. Just another trivial, unnecessary thing Gen happens to share with Ukyo instead of him.
--
Ukyo can sing. For many reasons, this means Senku suffers.

Summary
27-year-old post-doc Senku Ishigami is almost hit by a car one night on his way home after finishing a model demonstrating interstellar travel might be possible, only saved by mentalist and TV star Gen Asagiri. They bicker, they part, and that should be the end of it.
But the next day Senku wakes up to a repeat of the day he finished his model and almost gets hit by a car.
And so does Gen.

Summary
"He’s always been drawn to brilliance, and Senku burns with it - intense and focused, like a sun you can’t quite look away from. Ambition recognizes ambition, and Ryusui is nothing if not a connoisseur of greatness.
But he isn’t foolish.
He could chase Senku - there's an allure to him, a gravity that pulls people in. Senku’s charismatic, in the same way watching a star explode is awe-inspiring. It might hurt, but you can’t help but be drawn in. If Ryusui were a different kind of man, he might have flirted with him in earnest, tried to charm his way in, claimed him like any other coveted treasure.
But he’s not interested in playing a game he can’t win. Not when Gen Asagiri is already on the board."
Ryusui's putting up with a lot of pining between Senku and Gen. As an expert in desire, he wishes they would get it together, but he'll have fun along the way.

Summary
“I have heard of this,” Ruri says softly, crouched beside the worktable. Her fingers hover just above the broken glass shards, careful not to touch. Gen holds the cloth open in his palms, revealing both the fractured remnants and the single, perfect star. They shimmer in the bright sunlight. “Though there hasn’t been a case in the village in years. It’s not a common disease. More of an old story, really.”
Gen watches her carefully. “But a real one?”
She nods slowly. “As far as we’ve been able to tell. It’s said to be driven by extreme emotions, ones the body can’t contain. The tears turn solid. Crystallize.” She pauses, then adds, “Not always into shapes like this, though. That part is…new.”
Gen’s eyes drop to the star again, impossibly clear and cold in the sunlight. It looks more like a snowflake carved by hand than anything that should come from a human body.
“How odd it is that it’s our dear Senku who developed it then,” Gen says lightly.
---
Senku starts crying glass stars.

Summary
"Maybe that was the mistake. Maybe that made Senku believe he could interpret Gen’s signals as genuine. The teasing. The closeness. The way Gen always sat just a little too near, noticed when Senku’s hands were shaking from exhaustion, when the weight of the world was too much for his shoulders. The way Gen had stood next to him, like he had always been there and would always be. It had felt real. It had felt like a constant.
Now it just feels like he misunderstood the equation.
Senku’s not one to cry. Since waking up from the stone, he’s also not one to seek out solitude if he doesn’t have to - silence is oppressive; he needs the noise of people nearby to quell the faint panic lingering inside him when things are too still. But he’s wishing now no one was nearby."
Senku's been in love with Gen since he met him. It doesn't seem like Gen feels the same way.

Summary
"“As Senku would say, ten billion percent that I don’t even have a single hint of romantic feelings for Senku,” Gen says, flapping his hand in front of his face, eyes closed, a meaningless smile curling his lips. “You guys are just making up silly stories again.” When he opens his eyes, Ryusui isn’t looking at him, but just past him, eyes narrowed, smirk gone. Gen turns his head and finds Senku standing there, his hand paused mid-air, as if he’d been about to touch Gen’s shoulder. His jaw is tight, his petrification scars distorted by the furrow of his eyebrows. His ears are red, stark against his pale skin.
“What’s up, dear Senku?” he prompts after a strangely long moment of silence.
“....Never mind, I forgot what I needed,” Senku mutters abruptly, turning on his heel and stalking off, shoulders stiff, fists clenched."
Gen says the wrong thing at the wrong time. It takes a while for everyone to get on the same page.

"Senku stares at him for another long second in his quiet, assessing way. Gen wonders what he notices, if he can see through all the rot and grime inherent to Gen’s soul, to the garden that Senku sparked within him with his hope and passion and curiosity towards life. If Senku is aware that before Gen had met him, life had been a chore to get through rather than an experience to treasure. "
At the end of the Stone War and after Tsukasa's injury, Gen is forced to confront some things he had been ignoring.

“Another one for the books, right?” Shouta says wryly. His voice is still on the low end for a woman’s, but like with his eyes, it’s now seductive rather than threatening. Hizashi has to suppress a shiver.
Jesus Christ, who would have thought Shouta was his type? He’s never seriously looked at Shouta in that way, never considered it. In a world full of Quirks, this seems like an oversight – he probably should have had a contingency plan for having his best friend turn into his definition of a bombshell.

Ino grins at her. “I don’t have much data, but. Hear me out.”
“I will if you spill it,” Sakura says, crossing her legs and leaning back in her chair. She rubs at her temples in a show of a headache that is threatening, but not yet present. Trust Ino to build it up; nothing is ever straightforward, and everything is at maximum shock value. If she says anything about Naruto and Shikamaru being friends and hey, ain’t that a surprise? Sakura might just murder her, paperwork be damned.
“I think Naruto’s in love with Shikamaru."
In which Naruto has grown up, Shikamaru hasn't, and Sakura just wants to do her paperwork in peace.

Summary
Hizashi feels his forehead furrowing involuntarily. A week and a half of anxious suffering, and it’s True Love’s Kiss™? “That seems too simple,” he growls. “You’re known for obscure or difficult requirements.” Michelle shrugs, unfazed. If she hadn’t knocked out Shouta, he’d probably like her – he’s got a fondness for heroes that are somewhat dickish assholes who don’t care about others’ opinions.
“I didn’t feel like the situation with Eraserhead required anything particularly complicated,” she replies huffily. “Here’s the full list, if you’re going to be like that. He has to be kissed on lips. It can’t be family. It has to be someone who he loves or who loves him, and the love has to be romantic – I’ve never been able to make it a requirement that the feelings are returned, so this is the closest I can get.”
Shouta is Sleeping Beauty, and Hizashi's just enough in love to help.
