Someone on the other end of the phone has answered, but John, who’s already covered the receiver with his hand, doesn’t seem interested anymore.
The vacant stare and that gaping mouth Sherlock gets in response beg for comment.
“Oh, John.” Sherlock tilts his head, a nervous, entirely wrong smile distorting his features. “Your deductive skills were never great, but a couple of years ago, you’d have figured it out right away. Have you really deteriorated this much in my absence?”

Like with cockroaches: chronic illness comes rarely alone, and Sherlock has to learn to cope with each new challenge as it arises, which is easier said than done when you’re the world’s only consulting detective and autistic.
I wrote this to raise awareness about POTS (Dysautonomia) and the lesser known, barely talked about co-morbidities (not EDS, we’re not being cliché here)

(Originally planned to be named “The tip of the needle”, but I thought it would give the wrong impression with the drug use tag.)
It was honestly a long time coming. He’d simply refused to acknowledge that the numbness in his legs could become more pronounced.
His legs are always either tingling, like a thousand ants running around underneath the skin, or numb, from right below his knees, down to the toes. He hasn’t been able to move his toes for about a year now, and his balance has gotten worse over time, too.
His hands get weak and his eyes play tricks on him, and a part of him knows that something else is going on. He just doesn’t want to get another diagnosis that he has to deal with, especially since every diagnosis he’s received over the past years are only ever incurable, chronic conditions.This is the journey of Sherlock learning that he might have multiple sclerosis, and suffers lasting problems from a routine test with allegedly minimal risks, which are taking an additional toll on his quality of life.
