Summary
The crowd was intense tonight. There was a push and pull that added to the thrumming feeling under his skin, only heightened by the small, stolen moments with Ilya. Every time Ilya would glance over, he’d find Shane’s eyes on him and his lips would tick up into a smile. Sometimes, when Ilya was at the other side of the stage, Shane would flick his eyes up to the screen next to them and look at the close up of Ilya’s curls sticking to his skin and the bead of sweat sliding down his neck.
Ilya Rozanov is the charismatic lead singer of Overtime Lights. Shane Hollander plays hockey and doesn't know anything about music. A night in New York leads to the reveal of their secret relationship.

Summary
“Ilya Rozanov came out to you as bisexual earlier this year,” Harris said, like he was trying to make sure he got his facts straight. “And you didn’t mention it to your boyfriend.”
“I couldn’t just out him,” Troy said. “Also you weren’t my boyfriend yet. And I had a lot going on, okay?”
Harris stared.
“And he sort of told me about…?” Troy said, gesturing at the phone. “I mean, I sort of asked, and he didn’t say that it wasn’t, uh, happening. I don’t know. I guess I forgot about it.”
Harris flopped backward on the bed, both hands over his face.
“How,” he said. “Did you forget.”
A very fluffy fic in which Harris Drover is all of us. Takes place toward the end of The Long Game & has MAJOR spoilers for that book.

"It's officially Veterans Day." Parker swiveled in her chair to look at Jack, going mock-solemn as she intoned, "Thank you for your service."
"You're fired," Jack instantly shot back, the damn traitor.

Summary
Gifting someone a stethoscope at a milestone was very traditional, he knew, but some traditions should be observed. They kept you anchored to something greater than yourself. And this one was just...warm. Jack always thought of the people who'd given him his steths—Colonel Jacquemin, who'd gifted him his first Littmann when he finished residency, or Lizzie, who'd given him his current Littmann III when Adamson hired him as an attending. It was a reminder of the people who loved you, believed in you, helped you along the way, a physical token of those you carried with you.
Sure, maybe it wasn't exactly Jack's place to give one to Robby, more properly the domain of family or mentors. If Adamson had lived to retire, he would've gifted Robby a steth to celebrate his promotion, Jack was sure. Robby's family was gone, so that wasn't an option, and Jack would be damned if Robby's elevation to one of the highest posts in their field would go uncelebrated.

Summary
“I don’t know what I want to do.” Dennis admits. He looks over at Robby, staring at the side of his face. They’ve been closer than this before, but being in the car together feels strangely intimate. “What would you do?”
“If it was me… I’d at least go for that dinner. But I’m not you. You need to do what’s best for you, Dennis.”
There it is again, his name from Robby’s mouth. It makes his attention linger, still staring at Robby’s face. Dennis is once again overwhelmed with the urge to just bury his face in Robby’s neck and pretend the world doesn’t exist, but that’s not the grown up thing to do. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, rubs his temples with his fingertips as Robby continues, “Carry your patients with you as much or as little as you like. Find your balance. But remember that you’re human.”
Dennis opens his eyes to the countryside fading away and the city bleeding in. He knows Robby is right. That’s what he needs: balance.
In his last year of med school, Dennis learns to let go of the guilt that plagues him.

Summary
"You're still injured. We should wait for some other time."
Dennis shook his head, knowing that if they didn't lock into whatever this spark between them was right now, they'd never get a proper chance again.
"You'll just have to be gentle with me, then," he suggested, his hands roaming over Robby's chest.
Robby's eyes darkened, looking him up and down, as if assessing not only Dennis' injuries, but also him.

Summary
"It's Santos."
Parker's dry observations flitted through Jack's mind again—that ever-present question of whether he should raise it...but now didn't seem like the time. "A month in and still driving you up the wall? What'd she do this time?"
Robby shook his head, despairing. "What didn't she do?" Then he refocused on Jack, something sharper there, more intent. "Doesn't matter. Distract me?"

Summary
They aren’t his family, not in the traditional sense. But the idea that they might be, that they could be, unsettles him more than he wants to admit. It’s the same quiet dread that hit him when Collins said he had helped raise Amy. He doesn’t know why exactly. Maybe because imagining them as a family implies imagining him and Jack as something. And that’s just absurd, right?
Or: Robby has been a quiet constant in the lives of Abbot and his daughter, filling a space that was never clearly named. As they drift into their fifties, he begins to recognize that his feelings for Jack may have deepened into something real and perhaps impossible. Now he’s left wondering if this almost-family could ever truly be his.

Summary
Denial. Robby could recite the stages of grief like a prayer. But this? No, it simply wasn’t true. He’d seen Jack, what, an hour and a half before 8:24? Jack, who’d joked about…something. What was it? Hawkeye, that was it. Jack had called Robby ‘Hawkeye.’ And then he’d left, saying he’d see him tonight. Jack had said specifically that, he’d said he’d see Robby tonight. That wasn’t…that just wouldn’t make sense.
“No, he, uh…he’s back on duty in a couple hours, he’ll be coming in for his shift.”
It was such an inane thing to say. Exactly the sort of thing he’d find heartrendingly innocent in the family of a patient, when delivering the bad news. Not rational. Not real. But this had to be real, Jack had to be coming in for his shift. Handover was in two hours.
Officer Anders stepped in. “We’d like you to come down to the station with us to identify the body.”
-----
Robby finds out that he's Jack's emergency contact in the worst possible way: when he's called in to identify the body.
Can be a sequel to 'Day or Night,' but also works as a standalone. Title from 'I Was an Island' by John-Allison Weiss.

Summary
Robby frowned and looked at Jack. "Is it me or are you now off Monday through Thursday?"
"Yeah, I figure we can drive out Tuesday morning and come back in time for my shift Friday night."
Robby's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Did someone invite you to the cabin I rented?" Jack tilted his head and just looked at Robby, silent and expectant. After a long moment, Robby huffed a resigned laugh, like he wondered why he even bothered protesting. "Jack, would you like to come hiking with me?"

Summary
“What the hell happened?”
“What happened, Michael,” Jack answers, hard, as if Robby can’t see the broken-open expression on his face, “is you got yourself hit by about five thousand pounds of steel and dropped out on me—”
“Shit,” Robby curses. “Jack— I’m sorry. You okay?”
Jack laughs without much humor in it. “Are you— Are you kidding me? Seriously? Your heart stopped on my table, you’re asking if I’m fucking okay?”
“Yeah, I am,” Robby says, because if it’d been Jack without a pulse on his table, he knows he would not be anywhere near okay.

Summary
"I'm not about to kill myself, Robby," Jack said, easy. "If I were going to kill myself, I wouldn't do it here, for you all to find, because that's just rude. I'd eat my gun at home like a proper soldier. Iraq vets have a system, man, it's tradition," he drawled, putting some grim humor on the last.
"Gotta be honest, man, you're not making me feel better over here," Robby said, his voice actually worried now.
"Would it help to know I'm out here because it reminds me that I want to be alive?"

Summary
“Sir, calm down,” the cop outside the hospital instructs, more firmly this time. “We haven’t identified them yet. When we do, we’ll notify their family. You can’t do anything for them now.”
He hadn’t even thought he’d be seen as a doctor trying to help. All he feels like is a desperate, hollow thing that needs to know— needs to know— whether the dead, horrible thing that lays so close to him— and yet so far from him— is— was— Robby—
—Mike—
“No,” he shoves out of his mouth, shaking his head, forcibly rejecting this with every cell in his body. “N— No. No, nope, no, not him. It’s not— It’s not—”
or: someone takes their own life jumping off the hospital roof. jack and robby each have their own misunderstandings.

"IPA," Robby called again, a reminder.
"For that, I'm getting you a Bavarian wheat beer, you prissy fuck." But Jack bypassed the respectable Penn Pilsner and grabbed a pack of their hopped-to-shit IPA, hating himself a little for giving in...but it would make Robby smile.
The door banged open, spinning Jack around, senses instantly on alert as a guy rushed in, black bandana tied around his face, pistol pointing at Sal as he shouted. "Open the register! Now!"

Summary
The job offer came out of nowhere. Centennial Hospital, a level 1 trauma center in Colorado, wanted him to take over for their retiring chief attending. They'd heard the same rumors as everyone about PTMC—how it'd be taken over, transformed, the ED shut down. Didn't Jack want to get ahead of it and find himself a new gig, head of the department, master of his own fate? And the money, of course. Lots and lots of money.
Jack promptly told them to fuck off.
