"I, um, I have to go, my parents are waiting for me..." Noelle muttered, despite the knot of anxiety suffocating her. She didn't want to go back, to return to that oppressive cold that she knew she would find if she talked to her parents about Dess, and she didn't want to leave anyway, leave the sudden warmth that she didn't deserve...
A hand squeezed around hers, soft and delicate, and she turned her head to see Kris, looking back at her with their pale crimson eyes, silencing the self deprecating stream of thoughts.
"If you ever want to talk, just... look for me in school," they mumbled, and Noelle felt too stunned to speak. All she could give was a meek nod, as she stared entranced at their gentle gaze. Kris smiled slightly, and she stepped away from the piano and back to her dad, feeling lightheaded and weak in the knees.
