Shane crosses the room and grabs a chair from the corner, dragging it into the center of the room.
Right next to the foot of the bed.
He pats the back of the chair, making sure to keep his expression neutral. “Sit,” he instructs, sounding more confident than he feels.
Ilya raises an eyebrow but gets to his feet. “You do not want me on the bed?” He asks, sounding more than a little confused.
“No,” Shane replies simply, patting the chair again.

Summary
Shane doesn’t realize he’s braced for silent eyes until he feels the absence of it — the weight of teammates immediately finding him and going quiet, waiting for him to fuck up, to say the wrong thing, to exist wrong. He expects the chatter of a room to drop when he enters and its disconcerting to find it doesn't yet in Ottawa.
He stands at the entrance a beat too long.

“Gil—” J.J. says, but Shane doesn’t want him to finish that sentence, to pull Comeau gently off the ledge he’s steering himself toward. Shane wants to push him, kicking and screaming, to make them say it to his fucking face. That after all this time, they still hate him for the heinous crime of falling in love.
“We’ve been married for two years,” Shane says. “I’m not sure that qualifies as playing house. I mean, it’s longer than you were with your first wife, isn’t it?”

He knew how private his husband was, how much time he’d spent cultivating a very particular image of himself to the world. An image of himself that only Ilya and a few other people were ever able to see behind.

Rozanov grins. “Really good. About time. I know we have been winning a lot, but is always the most fun to beat Montreal.”
“The situation’s kind of changed though, hasn’t it?”
“Is true.” Rozanov looks almost thoughtful. “It used to be the most fun to beat them because they had the best player on their team. Now…” Rozanov trails off. He chances a look to the side, as if to check if someone’s there or not. “Now is going to be fun because they are very stupid.” Rozanov’s face is very hard. Serious. Angry. Scary.

During Shane's first season with the Ottawa Centaurs, he loves his new team and feels much more relaxed than he ever did in Montreal. But there is still a niggling thought inside his head. He still isn't good enough.

4 times Shane thinks someone on the Centaurs is telling him he isn't good enough - just like in Montreal.
+1 time Ilya sees the scars Montreal left on Shane and tells his husband he has always been more than good enough. It was Montreal who was never good enough.(Edit with an extra bonus chapter - a few people wanted to see Ilya and Hayden talk about Montreal so that has been added in chapter 3.)

With a jumbled memory of this moment, however, Robert finds himself confused by Flambae's actions since.
I was mildly annoyed by Robert having zero recovery time after a concussion. I couldn't even read when I had mine so I needed to fix that. And what better fix it than my Dispatch OTP? Slightly stretched timeline to give them more bonding moments, but the story progresses mostly how the game does. No one gets cut from the Z Team, and no dogs are threatened by Shroud. Why? Because I can.

The thing about plastic chairs is that they weren't a great substitute for an actual bed; the other thing is, Robert can't exactly afford to be picky and even if he 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 the internal debate is still ongoing as to whether or not he deserves a mattress at this current point in his life.
So, the plastic chair stays and is staying for the foreseeable future. Besides, it's charming - in a depressing, minimalism-that-is-totally-not-a-reflection-of-his-inner-sense-of-worth way.
