Sitting on a bench across the playground, she was just… tapping the top of her wrist repeatedly, indicating the time on a clock that wasn’t there. Smirking and impatient looking, arching her eyebrows at America as if daring her to do something.
“Who?”
“That. What’s she waiting for?”
But no matter how much America pointed and insisted that she was, in fact, there, Nicky didn’t seem to find her. “You’re being weird again,” he had shook his head, climbing down from the monkey bars and holding his hand towards her. “Come on, let’s go get something to eat!”
America climbed down carefully and followed him, and when she looked back, the woman was gone.
She’d be back, though.
