Summary
As Percy walked to his office, his gaze drifted, pulled by each brush of green along his path. Every shade, every nuance caught his eye now. The floral tapestry in the hallway showed leaves that were just a shade too yellow. The witch’s dress he passed leaned more toward blue than green. Even the hat in the corner had a hint of brown. No green was right anymore. All of it were too brownish, too blue, too yellow.
Nothing was the green he was afraid and desperate at the time to see again.
Suddenly, he saw it, the exact green his mind had been searching for. It stopped him dead in his tracks. His coffee slipped slowly from his fingers, the scalding liquid splattering across the floor and searing his hand, but he barely registered the pain. All he could see was that green, advancing toward him, already too close, already in his face. Was it how it was all going to end?
He took her in with a stunned intensity: her sharply cut black hair grazing her chin, pale skin, and those striking green eyes that practically seared through him. Her gaze was a green that had stoped him dead in his track: the very shade that haunted him night and day since the battle. The green of curses, of endings. The green of death.
