Summary
"Holy Mary, giver of grace and mercy, pray for this sinner and be with me at the hour of my death. Amen."
Simon dies choking on blood and can't seem to wash it off his hands when he wakes. Grace is unable to offer his namesake to himself. Rocky has to keep them both alive.
Alone on the path to Erid, haunted by decisions that were never theirs to make, Grace and Simon must learn to offer themselves the same kindness and goodness they find in one another.

Summary
Ryland thought once he got to Erid, that was it. He'd live out the rest of his days with his best friend, perhaps teach the Eridian pebbles about Earth. Retirement sounded nice, but as nice as Erid was, it would never be like Earth. As homesick as he was, he kept going. As lonely as he was, he kept living.
Then, Rocky knocks on his door one morning, claiming the Eridians found another human. One that was alive.
Or, introspection and character study, and what happens when two sides of the same coin meet. What happens when loneliness is no longer a thing, when two people who have been alone for so long finally have someone to cling to?

Summary
Driver's plan is simple: keep driving until there's enough distance between him and Los Angeles that none of it can catch up. Unfortunately, blood loss has plans of its own. Several states, one totaled car, and an ill-timed loss of consciousness later, Driver finds himself deposited rather unceremoniously outside Lars's house like a particularly injured stray dog.

Summary
There is a point in every man’s life, a distinctive point in time where he recognizes that he has grown up. Come into his own. Someone who holds a job, someone who does laundry on Saturdays and attends church every Sunday. Lars is trying to understand what a man is; if he deserves that title yet.
Maybe it is someone just as lost as the injured, bloody stranger he finds in the snow. The deer on the side of the highway that Lars passed last week, or the moths in the porch lights Karin had to pluck out of the bulb, or the mice stuck in oil and glue that Gus didn't mean to hurt.
Driver is trying to understand what it means to be human, to be alive, rather than a man at all.

Summary
The Eridians had made little sense of it when it was first detected, resonating from within an astrological body only a fragment of light years away that had—apparently, impossibly—not been there before. A crooked moon with no star, they’d said. No planet. And, from it, this little noise that had reached the Eridian transmitters, quick as a heartbeat. Staggering like a gasp of breath.
A sign of life, crying out into the universe for help.
And Dr. Ryland Grace, in all his cosmic stupidity, followed it.

"Is romance always like this, though?" His head tilted slightly as he asked the question.
"Not really, the actual romance films include a lot less funny shenanigans."
"No, I mean, back on Earth."
Grace bit the inside of his cheek. This felt like being back in the classroom and having to explain to one of his students that their crush not liking them back was not the end of the world while he himself had just deleted Tinder for the nth time in his adult life.

Summary
An Eridian mining crew find a human welded into a stranded ship on the surface of a moon. They bring him back to Erid, to the only other human they know.
Something in Grace's chest flickered into life. He had buried it so long ago that he hardly knew what it was anymore, and so he took off his glasses and cleaned them on the edge of his cardigan, as if Rocky's words were a smudge he could clear away before finding the will to hope.
“Ah…” his words failed halfway out of his mouth. Rocky chittered at him, a little sound of encouragement. “There’s another human? Here. And… alive?”

“I’m sorry. I was waiting for you to come out,” the other man says, and Nanami turns his head. “Is that strange?”
“It is. What do you want?” Nanami's voice is curt, but not rude.
It was exceedingly strange, and yet, Nanami found himself more excited than confused. The man had been sitting next to him on purpose. Why? The question doesn’t have long to simmer, though, because the other man is eye-fucking him so hard that Nanami feels a bit bashful. His dark eyes are wide, staring deeply into Nanami’s own, then shamelessly drinking him in head to toe. Who hasn’t wished for a stranger to notice them? Wished for something that would break through the monotony?
“Can we go somewhere more private?”
