Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.

The toys were not supposed to play favorites, though it was inevitable that there would be those they got along with more than others. They just had to be subtle about it.
It was no secret that the Playcare’s CatNap had a favorite. A quiet, docile child, with absolutely no special attributes except their ability to sneak up on people. A child known known among the toys, staff, and other kids as the purple critter’s best-friend.
But then came the day you were chosen by a family and had to leave. They didn’t even give you time to say goodbye to everyone, much less your friend. All you could do was leave with a promise to a certain feline that you’d be back one day.
And now, eight years after the incident, ten since you left, you return only to find so few of your friends still remain.

That night, when Catti is downstairs getting a cup of water, she stops dead in Noelle’s kitchen doorway.
At the livingroom piano Kris is sitting in their pajamas. Not playing but shifting their fingers across the keys like muscle memory. Their face has a gentle kind of sadness.
At the top of the stairs, barely visible, is the looming shadow of December.
Catti presses herself back against the doorframe as Dess walks slowly down the stairs, staring at Kris. The way she’s looking at them makes Catti want to hide, makes her heart hammer like she’s in danger. She can’t tell what it is about the look, but she just feels somehow that it’s wrong.

Susie is holding hands with a boy. Noelle wonders why she’s dreaming about this.
Susie falls to her knees and clutches Kris’ limp body and she keeps holding hands with the boy, the boy that looks like Kris’ brother. Noelle thinks absently that this is a scarier dream than she’s ever had, and that Kris’ blood is matting in Susie’s hair as she tries to find their heartbeat.
Then Susie stands up, and Noelle knows with absolute certainty that Susie is going to kill her. Kris’ face reflects in Susie’s axe as she swings it back, and in the split second before Noelle blacks out, there is still an expression lingering on their face. Relief.

They felt her dry her face, a shaky sigh, and another deep breath. Relieved that this was over, The Core stopped analyzing her thoughts as she left the bathroom, shutting off the light behind herself. Though instead of heading back into Anne’s bedroom, she turned down the stairs. Which… The Core hadn’t seen her do much. She usually didn’t leave Anne’s room for too long, the paranoia of her waking up and Marcy not being there usually got to her and led her back to the room before anything happened. But not this time apparently. Marcy made her way down to the first floor, into the kitchen. A late-time snack perhaps, or whatever else one may need from the kitchen. It’s not like The Core understood the feelings of having a physical body anymore. Most of those who had been assimilated had long forgotten the feelings of hunger and thirst. What it felt like to jitter and shudder, the feeling of cold, hot, and everything in between. Except, she passed the fridge and stood next to the oven.
She grabbed a knife from the knife block.

Sasha let out a growl and lunged, catching the creature, whatever it was, by its hood. She wasn't about to let it get away, not without a fight.
"Get over here!"
The hood comes down, but before she can get a good look at it, something slams against the side of Sasha's face. Her hand is still in the hood, though, and so they go down together. A body landing atop Sasha's and pressing her into the dirt. Something presses against her throat-- probably the same thing that hit her in the face-- and she's forced to look up into the eyes of her attacker or risk getting her wind-pipe crushed like a twig.
"Anne?!" She wheezes.
"GRAAH!" Anne snarls, pupils the size of pinpricks.

So one night, Yunan climbed through the window of Olivia’s chambers, and the two newts crept through the palace, down the secret passageway that Andrias had shown Olivia, and into Andrias’s innermost sanctum, where the sleeping Core kept watch over Marcy’s motionless body.
Or: Olivia and Yunan break into the castle to rescue Marcy, but she's a long way from being fully recovered. Despite the challenges ahead, Marcy's newt family is there for her, no matter what.
