Maverick knuckles whitened as he gripped his glass, then raised it to take another gulp, relishing the sting as the whiskey slid smoothly down his throat.
Wallowing in his misery, feeing his ghosts more strongly than usual.
Grunting as he was jostled from behind, though managing not to spill any of his drink.
“Sorry, man,” a flushed face said, features blurring around the edges from how much he'd drunk already, knowing he’d have to get a cab later.
“No problem,” he muttered, turning back to his drink. Dismissing it entirely. He had far bigger things to worry about, after all.
Though he would soon have bigger worries, because he hadn’t noticed the guy slip something into what was left of his double.

Summary
Learning everything about ejections is one of the first lessons in flight training. From day one, all cadets are made aware of the significant risks involved in ejecting from a fighter jet. Everyone knows that ejection is the last resort, the final option a pilot can turn to when their jet is no longer recoverable. Pulling the handles is the toughest and quickest decision a fighter pilot may have to make in their entire career. Once the handles are pulled, the body is subjected to about 25 Gs of force as the ejection seat catapults the pilot into the air, placing immense strain on the body.

"That's a very fun way of getting me to tell you how I know Mav," mused Ice. "I'm in."
