Darius stood a few feet away from Hunter, assessing the boy for a moment. Even in his dazed state, Hunter knew he looked more ragged than usual. So ragged, apparently, that Darius nearly sounded concerned.
"You look like you just crawled out of a grave."
Hunter wasn't sure if he should laugh or cry. so instead, the young boy pulled another book from the shelf, never looking toward the other witch.
"Yeah. something like that."

Hunter find something that no one was ever supposed to find, and learns about the true nature of The Day of Unity. With no place to run and desperate to survive, he creates a plan to sabotage the Day of Unity. The view from the staircase is, well, not stunning, that’s definitely not the word. It’s just that “view” is supposed to be accompanied by “stunning,” and Luz can feel her brain coming to a screeching halt and refusing to process what they’re seeing.
It's skeletons. Come on, they both knew it was going to be skeletons. The entire Isles know at this point.(Or: despite what the stories would have you believe, in the aftermath, there are things to deal with. Those things include ruined infrastructure, electing new leaders, and prosecuting those responsible for the old regime. And apparently, also Grimwalker mass graves.)

Summary
Jack Spicer died.
It had happened at a Showdown, for the Xin de kaishi. The Wu had been hidden in a flower field, surrounded by so many real daffodils. It started out fine. Then, things got ugly. Jack had given up not too long ago, but went with everything out of habit. The partial albino was done with the war, and all the abuse that came with it. Too bad he decided this way too late.
Jack Spicer died in the war for the Wu, not even twenty-one yet. He died. A bloody and painful one at that. So, why was he waking back up? Jack died, but because of the Wu, he had been sent back to the start. The Wu had somehow sent him back into the past. But the thing was; Jack didn't want to be alive. He would have rather death then waking back up. His life was a mess before; he was essentially abused by everyone, had no friends to call his own, he failed too much to be of use to anyone, and he would bet all his money that no one cried at his funeral. So why was it that he had been sent back? Why does it seem like no matter what, he can't escape the world of magic?
Jack would rather have stayed dead. Maybe if he doesn't try this time, everything would work out better?
The Wu are not the only magical items fought over.Series

The truth was, Darius didn’t want to think about the Emperor’s nephew. Because yes, sure, in light of the recent mask situation, Darius suspected that if he looked at the kid’s situation as closely as he’d been looking at the Day of Unity situation, he could probably reach a similarly troubling conclusion.
But it wasn’t his problem. They didn’t have time for this. They had enough on their plate without trying to address the… whatever may or may not be wrong with that kid.
(He was too busy failing to derail the Day of Unity. He didn’t have time to fail to help a child, too.)
