Dammit, he's starting to look like Marlene. It's hidden behind all that mako in his eyes. It masks the horrors children face when the monsters consume their dreams at night. The ones where they scream that the monsters will eat them too. That's when their parents come to save them, hold them, comfort them. Being familiar with how Marlene gets when she experiences nightmares, Cloud looked no different.
Or Cloud and Barret are on a mission and Cloud slips and Barret's gotta save them.

Or an age regressing fanfic with Little Edward, Mama Riza and Daddy Roy. This is mostly based in the 2003 universe and where Hughes doesn't die. :)
