Summary
After the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Shinobi Union is formed to maintain peace across the nations. As part of the effort, Konoha and Suna establish a long-term exchange program where shinobi from both villages train together. Rock Lee, now a jonin and instructor at the academy, is assigned to oversee a squad in Suna for six months. Gaara, busy with his Kazekage duties, barely interacts with him at first until strange feelings start getting in the way.

Lee staggered, flopping over Gaara, who braced with his entire strength just to keep the intoxicated Leaf-nin upright. Drunk Lee had grabby hands—Gaara hoped no one noticed the one creeping towards his ass.
“I—immm sso sick of you guys!” Lee slurred to his teammates over Gaara’s shoulder, gesticulating wildly with the hand not currently sliding down Gaara’s spine. They stared back, dumbfounded. “Alw—hic—ays just pretending youaren—ot in love with eachthr! J-just fuck already!” Having got his muddled statement out, Lee nuzzled his face into Gaara’s neck and went still, dead asleep on his shoulder.
You could have heard a senbon drop.

Summary
Lee takes a deep breath standing in front of the kitchen sink. He fills a glass with water, unsteady hands trembling.
He drinks half the glass, letting his brain calm enough for Lee to feel comfortable returning to the couch sized chasm between himself and Gaara.
He slides his hand into Gaara’s own after a moment, apology and want and fear building into that one gesture.

The only sweet thing that never did Gaara any harm, the only sweet thing he actually craved, was Lee. But Lee’s sweetness was of a different kind. It was the warm tingling sensation on Gaara’s skin when Lee said something kind to him, the quickstep skip of his heart at every touch of his hands, the soft, aching heaviness in his bones when Lee lay beside him in the dark.
