Summary
William Herondale is an ordinary history professor just trying to pay off his grad school debt. In fact, he's totally confident that there is nothing remarkable about him and that his only enemies are the students who resent taking his gen ed history course. Except that ordinary history professors don't usually have to worry about masked men breaking into their offices to kidnap them. They certainly aren't rescued by two stunningly attractive ex-FBI agents and forced to go on the run from an antiquities smuggler with a vengeance.
James Carstairs and Tessa Gray cut ties with the FBI art crimes division when they lost everything to one terrible case gone wrong. With a set of new identities and a lot of desperation, they have been trying to con and grift their way into the answers they need to fix what was broken. After a series of dead ends and false hopes, they get a call from their previous FBI handler; an old ghost is coming back to haunt them and he's going after the one thing Jem and Tessa have left to lose.

I was not expecting this.
Granted, I should have known. Of course taking a dead girl's superhero identity has strings attached to it. Unfinished missions, un-dealt with enemies, unsolved mysteries, things like that. I knew when I took that mask I'd have the biggest gang in the state hot after my tail wanting vengeance, but I wasn't expecting to unearth a secret conspiracy or for Jean to become - with no exaggerations - everything to me.
There's a lot of things I didn't prepare for.I guess I should apologize for that too.
