But while Arthur had healed for more than a thousand years, Merlin had taken on wounds of his own that left him scarred in mind, if not in body. So Arthur learned to watch and listen. He learned to notice when Merlin began to slip away from him, when the centuries of loss and grief and guilt rose up like a barrier between them. Arthur learned to understand Merlin's pain, and soon, the lengths to which he went to escape it.

“And what is that?” Merlin mumbled. His body was stuffed with cotton, his tongue made of straw. The words tumbled from his mouth like stones.
“He cares for you,” Emrys whispered, “because he can control you. He believes you are simple; insignificant. You’re like a…like a pet.”
“That’s not true.” By the time the words left his mouth, Merlin already didn’t believe them.

After stumbling across a strange stone on a hunting trip, Merlin and Arthur find themselves trapped in an inverted Camelot: a world where a Druid named Emrys is the king.
This other Merlin—charismatic, powerful and terrifying—has a strange obsession with Arthur, and Arthur appears to be falling under his spell. But nothing here is as it seems; and if Merlin and Arthur can't be honest with each other, they may never make it home alive.

Summary
There was plenty of eggnog and spiced wine at the Yule Banquet the night before. Arthur’s head is pounding when Merlin wakes him up. Waiting for Gaius’ Miracle Elixir to take effect, Merlin casually reveals something to Arthur. Something that makes him question last night’s events—when Merlin had murmured forbidden, delicious words into the Prince’s ear. Something that stirs a part of his body he wished was asleep. Will this turn into another round of this Game of theirs?
