Ares chooses the one behind it, sitting just off the shoulder of the young mortal praying with her forehead pressed to her clasped hands. Dear God, please, she tells him; he’s probably not this ‘God’ she’s imagining, but as the mortals say, gods come in many forms. And is he not one and this one not his domain? Please help us reach our last stretch goal because everyone worked so hard and I think we deserve it. That would also mean that we would be able to donate so much to the war veterans and I think that would make so many people happy.

But as he turns around, nice and slow, the only thing facing him is an HR rep, clad in a neat company uniform.

This is partially about people, organic and inorganic, trying to exist in peace together; and partially about Gakupo, who is made to be marketed. His family is caught in the same balance of obedience, but every moment in a million comes an opportunity to tip the scale. When Gakupo's hours get cut, the scale shifts, and teaming up with a competing company's android could break the system entirely.
