I suck in my breath. Watch intently as he raises the cigarette to his mouth and inhales deeply. Holds the smoke in his lungs as he hands it back to me, then exhales and says, “I dunno. It just seemed the right thing to do.” I bring it back up to my lips and take another puff, never taking my eyes off him. Barely able to fucking inhale, let alone breathe.
