After the Sunshot Campaign Wei Wuxian is fooling around in Lotus Pier, and Jiang Cheng decides that he'd be more useful to the sect if he was to enter a diplomatic marriage. Especially since Lan Wangji seems so keen on dragging him away to Gusu. Only Wei Wuxian doesn't expect any good to come from it...

What if Wei Wuxian listened to his instinct, what if the whispers of the dead were not just accusatory, echoes of past suffering but urgent warnings, he may have realized sooner that something was deeply wrong—not just with the past, but with the present.

“Don’t let him escape!”
Spiritual energy surges forward in a wave.
Wei Wuxian laughs.
The sound rips itself from his chest, raw and sharp, edged with hysteria. It echoes off the cliffs, carrying unnaturally far. Several cultivators falter, their advance stuttering as they look up at him in alarm.
“Escape?” he repeats, voice carrying easily over the chaos, “Oh, you little fools, I’m not going anywhere.”
---
It is the Siege of The Burial Mounds. Wei Wuxian is the only one left alive. Instead of sacrificing himself to destroy the Stygian Tiger Amulet, Wei Wuxian finds him absorbing all of the energy in the Burial Mounds in his grief, in his anger, in his rage.
Once he returns to reality, he finds all of the cultivators who had participated in the siege kowtowing before him.
Wei Wuxian is about to have a lot of fun.

No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov has spent ten years circling Shane Hollander. Ten years of hotel rooms and secret phone calls. Ten years of pretending he doesn't feel it, doesn't need it, doesn't wake up reaching for someone who's already gone. Ten years convincing himself he's not good enough. That he's not worth it.
Then a plane needs to make an emergency landing near Montreal, and Yuna Hollander is on it.
So when Shane calls him from a bathroom floor, unable to breathe, Ilya stops pretending.
After five hundred miles of frozen highway, three and a half hours of driving like a man possessed, a hospital waiting room full of people who have every reason to hate him, and a boy who looks at him like he's something worth keeping, Ilya may have learned a thing or two about what it means to be loved—and to let himself love freely.

“And you’re sure there’s nothing for you?” David says suddenly. “You’re not—you’re feeling okay? You’re not sick? Shane wouldn’t have any reason to think that you’re sick?”
Ilya blinks and turns to him. “I am fine. Totally fine. Better than fine, even, before today.”
“It’s just—Shane’s acting like you’re dying, Ilya.”
“Not as far as I’m aware,” says Ilya. “And I do not think he would learn this before me.”

Rozanov cocked his head. “You speak Russian? Or just the curse words?”
“Yes, I speak Russian,” he snapped, defensive and angry. He knew that it had been a mistake to even try to be friendly with Rozanov. “Why? Do I not look Russian to you?” He scoffed.
“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”
“Go fuck yourself.”
+++
Despite an inauspicious start, when Russia’s Ilya Rozanov learns that Canada’s Shane Hollander is fluent in Russian at their first World Junior Championships tournament, it changes everything and sets them on a different course. Instead of being branded as rivals from the very beginning, Ilya and Shane start off as friends.
And, after all, a little friendly rivalry never hurt anyone, did it?

Summary
On the thirteenth anniversary of Wei Wuxian's death, Lan Wangji visits the Burial Mounds, as he does every year.
And every year, the Demon-Slaughtering Cave would be empty, dark and barren and dead. Lan Wangji will go in, light incense, and play the guqin to calm and soothe as many souls as he can (hope that not one of them is Wei Ying's—hope that wherever Wei Ying's soul is, it is not tied to and lost in this forsaken land). And then he will kneel, and remember, and hurt. And then he will leave.
This year...
This year, he meets a calamity.
