Summary
Harry Potter is unremarkable. A sub-par student, a loner and orphaned by parents few care to remember. He’s just a fifteen year old boy nobody seems to care about,and he in turn cares for nothing and nobody either.
But Harry Potter is also a Slytherin. And Slytherins, if nothing else know how to spot an opportunity. Slytherins don’t wait for fate to confer destiny upon them, they bend fate to their whim.
So when opportunity strikes to make his mark, to carve out his own place in the world, he takes it. The real question is if he’ll leave it scarred or renewed.

Oh, and the Ministry wants him to grant permission as Lord Slytherin to hold a death tournament at Hogwarts. Harry doesn’t see why he should do that.

Someone—and Harry might murder them if he ever finds out who—digs something up in old records proclaiming that Harry is not only the Heir of Slytherin as all Parselmouths are, but Lord Slytherin by Right of Conquest after killing the basilisk. Students start coming to Harry for protection and other gifts he can grant them as Lord Slytherin. Harry thinks this Lord business is the stupidest thing he’s ever heard, but all he needs to do is offer them protection and so on without becoming too full of himself. So it’s doable. Hopefully

Now, less than five years later, a group of disaffected former Death Eaters is causing trouble, and asking for Harry as a hostage in return for a period of peace. Harry, believing it’s better he be taken prisoner than Neville, accepts, thinking this will give Neville time to gather his forces and put down the Death Eaters. He doesn’t much think about his own fate, other than to assume it will be gruesome. He’s wrong.

AU. Harry accidentally Apparates to an empty Grimmauld Place when he’s nine instead of to the top of the school roof when he escapes Dudley’s gang. The house is empty except for portraits and sometimes a speaking wooden face, and Harry has to kill his own food, and there’s something nasty in the cellars, and some of the portraits are mad. But this is still a vast improvement over the Dursleys.
