“This,” Artemis began, gesturing Nico up and down. “Is a boy, uncle.”
Hades nodded, looking incredibly out of place as a mass of darkness in the otherwise serene meadow. “He is,” he agreed and then paused, looking at Nico with a sudden suspicion. “Right-?”
“Yes,” Nico interrupted flatly. “Still a boy. Just gay.”
“I was not conflating such things,” Hades muttered. Artemis raised a skeptical brow. “I merely thought I would ask.”
From behind Artemis, Percy gave a satisfied nod as he nudged Thalia. “Nice. We got a woke uncle.” He raised his fist only for Hades to stare. “Alrighty.” He pointed a thumb behind him. “I guess I’ll go-?”
“You better not leave me here,” Nico hissed.
“Bye, Nico!”
“Percy!” he began, a note of worrying desperation leeching into his tone. This was ridiculous. It wasn’t really happening, right? Right? “Tell Will that I’m being kidnapped!”
Thalia waved. “No,” she said, following after Percy.
Nico had never liked her.

Summary
After Tartarus, things were different. Percy Jackson was bed ridden on Olympus in Apollo's temple as he learns his worst nightmare is coming true: Percy was becoming a god whether he wanted to or not. Desperately, he tries to make the Fates change their minds. Instead, Percy and Apollo find themselves stranded in Ancient Greece where they must figure out a way to get home while also having to handle the meddling gods of the past. Meanwhile, in the present, Olympus scrambles as they discover the duos disappearance.

Summary
Perhaps he’d been a fool to assume that everything would be perfect once he made it back to Camp Half-Blood, but Percy Jackson couldn’t find it within himself to fault his past self’s optimism. He remembered leaving Camp Jupiter and knowing that he was finally on his way home, albeit through a long, roundabout detour that involved killing giants and saving the world (again). He remembered later standing on the membranous ground of Tartarus and looking up at the red, smoky air, knowing that if he and Annabeth survived, they would get to go home.
He had just wanted to go home.
Or,
Percy is not okay after the war with the giants, and hasn’t been for a long time.

Summary
Hades and Poseidon have put a vote to the Council of the Gods: removal of the non-interference rules for Percy, Annabeth, and Nico. Tartarus is no place for mortals, and it is clear that the three of them are buckling under the lingering shadows of The Pit. It passes near unanimously - the Council pays their debts, and journeying to the worst place in existence is well worth respite and recovery.
Percy, unfortunately, is immediately sidetracked. Why is Zeus poisoned? Why has no one noticed before him? Who is insane enough to slip something in Zeus’s drink? And why is this his problem? Is he really going to have to break his promise to Annabeth not to control poison again?

“I saw two!” yelled Percy. He was practically vibrating in his seat, and that alone concerned Annabeth. She could see the burst of his blond hair, sunnier than Apollo himself amid the Big House’s pristine warmth. She prayed to whatever god listening that no one heard that intrusive thought.
With the chaos that was currently happening around them, she almost regretted coming back to Camp Half-Blood for the summer.
However, the camp’s stillness—besides the movement behind the crack in the door that led to the Big House—was not what she expected when their camp director, Mr. D, was missing.

Or, Annabeth is stunned when no one seems concerned about Mr. D's disappearance, and finds most of the campers watching the Olympic Games' Opening Ceremonies instead.

There was a part of Percy that had always felt like an outsider at Camp Half-Blood.
It's never felt worse than since returning from Tartarus. When one bad dream or errant cough might be enough to flood the shores of Camp.Percy knows he's spiralling, struggling to reign in his own powers- but there's nobody else who he can talk to about it. He'd taking to hiding from prying eyes, desperate to handle it alone- because that's what he was in navigating these powers, alone.
Until someone dares seek him out in the eye of one of his storms. Percy expects anything from the goddess from cold dismissal to open mockery for how out of control his powers were.
