The lines are as crimson as the sky at the most fiery part of sunset, and the dots as gold as mora.
His parents bear his constellation, and Kaveh carries theirs, and he is loved.

Abstract: While recent studies have demonstrated the emotional feedback of food, this study examines the correlation between memories and emotions as related to food. While the experience examined is subjective and varied to change between individuals, the study has concluded a.) food triggers emotional responses outside of the biological experience and b.) the meaning behind those emotional responses can be directly tied to the people involved.

Al-Haitham feels his lips pull up into a smile.
In retrospect, starting a philosophical argument in the margins of an ancient poetry book might be one of the best ideas Al-Haitham has ever had.

Kaveh (very) slowly comes to terms with his feelings towards Al-Haitham...of moderate amiability, obviously. Anything more than that is hearsay.

The toddler began to cry, and then he started to cough from trying to cry too hard, snot dripping down his face. Another adult came hurrying over to help him to his feet before they went inside to head, presumably, to the nurse’s office.
Loud, chaotic, dirty. Everything that went against Al-Haitham’s standards.
“Working here as what?” Kaveh blinked. “Like admin or something? That’s probably quiet and far enough from kids for you. Though—”
“No,” interrupted Al-Haitham. “I don’t.”
After getting fired from a prestigious architecture firm, Kaveh moves back to his hometown to raise his five-year-old brother only to find that an old college "acquaintance" is his little brother's kindergarten teacher.

Summary
Kaveh usually doesn't get sick until he's finished a project. Maybe his body can recognise when it needs to keep itself together until it's safe enough to fall apart. But after an attack from some Treasure Hoarders leaves him injured, he catches an incredibly annoying cold. This leaves him recovering on Alhaitham's couch and easy pickings for Alhaitham's terrible taste in conversation topics and decorations. He doesn't understand how one man can be so knowledgeable while simultaneously being so, so ignorant.
Living with Alhaitham is going to drive Kaveh crazy.

“Coming!” Al-Haitham calls, navigating the maze of packing peanuts and crates. He undoes the latch on the door and lets it swing open, fully expecting to see the bearded face of his landlord only to be met with the vermillion-eyed face of somebody he had given up hope on seeing for the rest of his life.
There’s a long moment of silence. The aching swell of Vivaldi in the background and the rushing in his ears like the ocean waves.
“...Kaveh?”
Kaveh, globally-renowned musician, disappears off the face of Teyvat. Five years later, he shows up outside of Al-Haitham's door with no explanation but to ask for a bed to sleep in.
It's fine. They only have thirteen years of history, after all.

Summary
The instances Alhaitham’s admitted to feeling sad could be counted with one hand, partly because he’s good at hiding his negative emotions, and partly because he’s so good at rationalizing them that he truly feels alright most of the time.
To Kaveh, however, the thought of not feeling sad is strange. He still feels sorrow for his father, for his mother, and the suffocating emotions cannot be smothered despite how hard he keeps on working or drinking
Kaveh and Alhaitham comforting each other in their own way, and navigating through their sadness (together).

“Your incredulity pains me,” Alhaitham says, placing a hand on his chest as if he’s in physical pain. “I’m the most sincere person in the world,” Alhaitham continues, knowing that Kaveh will misinterpret his words as quiet mockery.
Sure enough, Kaveh lets out a scoff, as if Alhaitham’s words are nothing but false sanctimony. “Yeah right, and I’m the best person in the world.”
You are, Alhaitham thinks, without any hesitation. You have always been the best.
“Well you’re not exactly a saint,” Alhaitham says instead, because not even Kaveh’s innate goodness equates to perfection and this is, in part, why he almost feels close enough to touch.
(Or, 4 times Alhaitham yearns for the sun, and the 1 time he finally manages to hold it in his hands like a second heartbeat.)
