Shen Qingqiu's brow furrowed, his spiraling thoughts abruptly cut off as Shen Yuan's hand slid up to encircle his wrist.
"It's just, I thought a lot about the last time I saw you and," Shen Yuan's eyes skittered away. Then he let out a long groan. "This is so much easier when I'm talking about how the three-tailed tiger rat finds a mate"
"Mate?" Shen Qingqiu felt like his face was on fire. Why were they talking about rats and their mates?

Xie Lian looks up at him. He must be glaring, or on the verge of tears, because Hua Cheng desists immediately. He leans in to kiss his forehead and wipes some of the dampness from his cheeks with his thumb.
“I trust you, gege,” he says. A couple tears roll down Xie Lian’s cheeks, of shame and discomfort. He’s suddenly feeling a little like a cranky toddler. Hua Cheng catches the tears with his fingers and coos at him gently, rubbing his back. “This San Lang didn’t mean to make you upset. Will you forgive him?”

A few moments of silence followed the sound of the front door slamming shut. Liu Qingge hadn't intentionally shut it so loudly, but he'd left so quickly that he hadn't bothered to quieten the noise any. The sound of it hitting the door frame had a shudder running through Shen Qingqiu. He couldn't help the reaction, sitting where he'd been during his earlier conversation with his shidi.
The silence dragged on a little longer. Shen Qingqiu didn't know what to do. He'd told Liu Qingge that he was fine, that he felt perfectly fine. Had pushed for him to stop poking and prodding at him. Eventually, it seemed that Liu Qingge had, had enough and stormed out. Unable to handle being around Shen Qingqiu anymore. Though, he wasn't all that sure what he'd done.

Shen Qingqiu hasn't been taking care of himself, and Liu Qingge has come to check up on him. But when Liu Qingge goes in search of something that might help to convince him to rest, Shen Qingqiu finally falls apart in his absence and Liu Qingge has to figure out how to handle him when he returns.

Summary
After Liu Qingge presents as Omega, his Shizun threatens to make him leave the sect. Deciding it's better to use herbs to suppress his heats and ointments to block his scent, he tries to live his life without letting his true nature to be exposed.
Shen Jiu is an Alpha that hates everything about Alphas. So he uses herbs to suppress his ruts, and ointments to block his scent. He refuses to live as an Alpha brute like Liu Shidi.
It all probably would have come to nothing, except Liu Qingge is thrust into a position of power he didn't ask for, and wasn't ready for yet. Along the way, he finds out several things about himself and Shen Jiu that he really, really was not expecting.
A story about coming to terms with who you are and defying expectations.
