Summary
This is a very informal and conversational essay about the fic "Veneration for the Hunt". I just wanted to share some extended author's thoughts because I had quite a fun process writing this work. I originally was going to attach this as a "Chapter 4" in the original work but I decided against it because it would artificially inflate the word count.

Summary
By the time you read this, I'll be gone.
Illuga knows what it means to say goodbye.
With his legs wanting to give up and his lungs screaming, he is now running into the darkness because what's left is a world he won't live in.
Flins is standing on the balcony, dangerously close to the edges when he arrives at the lighthouse. The desk inside is covered in dozens of letters, all of which are farewells.
For years, Illuga has kept words inside his chest. But first, he wants to make Flins understand something just as important.
If Flins disappears, he is taking Illuga with him.

Summary
Illuga moved, his body having made the decision even though his conscious mind hadn’t caught up yet. He pushed Flins out of the way and felt the lance stab him in the heart through his back.
Strange, how that was almost painless. Perhaps his brain simply didn’t catch up yet. Perhaps it simply blocked away the pain. Either way, it was a small mercy. Slamming into the sand was hilariously more painful than the stab itself.Illuga took up an attack that would have injured Flins, nearly dying in the process because of the Abyssal corruption that took over. Flins refused to let that happen, even if the method to save Illuga wasn’t something he was proud of.

Two weeks have passed since Illuga came back with the other evacuees to Nod Krai and reunited with Flins. Two weeks in which he had no time to spend with his new lover, for that's what they are now. When he finally makes his way to the Final Night Cemetery, Flins is intent on showing him that he missed him – in his own way.
Can be read as a standalone or a continuation to "In the Wake of Fear and Regret"

His eyes are watery, and his voice trembles slightly. “Sir Flins, I… I broke most of your ribs doing chest compressions for nearly an hour. You had no vitals, you still don’t, and I didn’t know what to do… I-I thought I’d lost you,” he paused. “So please, I’m begging, be honest with me.”
Flins’s eyes slide closed for a moment as he processes Illuga’s words. Finally, he answers. “I’m sorry.” He mouths. The wheezing sounds that escape him coming straight from his lungs when he tries to talk stab Illuga in the gut.

Just as he was about to pass out, a sudden wave of scorching heat swept over him, searing his skin like the door of a blazing furnace thrown wide. The monsters let out a single, piercing shriek before the heat vanished as abruptly as it had come, leaving behind a heavy silence and the acrid stench of charred flesh.
Illuga opened his eyes and saw his savior standing calmly before him, one hand tucked behind his back and the other holding up a glowing lantern.

Husk shook his head. “Never.”
Angel nodded, letting out a shaky breath as he adjusted to sit up on his knees. He pulled Husk down to rest his forehead against his, breathing him in.
“Please,” Angel pleaded. “Please touch me so I can feel you and not them. Not him. Not any of ‘em. I only want you on me.”
Husk breathed in deeply, tilting Angel’s head back again to look at him. He searched those damp, pleading eyes. “Ya’ know I’ll give you anything you want. Let me take care of you now.”

To Bowser, this is just an easy favour to make Mario owe him in the future. However, he soon starts to find himself getting much too invested in the wellbeing of a man who may soon never wake up again.
