Summary
Alastor and Vox Auclair have been happily married for over a year after a decade of pining and courting from one another—though they will fervently insist that it was the other fell harder and deny that they were equally madly in love, or as their old friends would frequently like to say, “idiots in love”.
The Auclairs lived a fairly mundane life, and this day was of no exception… or so Alastor thought.
Vox was being... strange. Throwing tantrums at the smallest of things, yelling at him for the tiniest inconveniences, gorging on food, bursting into tears out of nowhere, so much so that he reminded Alastor of the time when one of their friends was pregnant and threw an entire blender at them.
But that couldn't be it, Alastor thought, but then, he found himself incredulously asking: could it?

“Ah,” says Alastor faintly, eyes shut. The shadows under them really do look cruelly bruised, as if someone has hit him in the face recently. Maybe someone has. “That does seem to follow what I can recall.”

Summary
In the chaos that follows the botched Extermination, Vox is smoking like a chimney, which is probably why it takes him quite so long to realize that something is actually wrong with him.
The carnation petals are a little harder to ignore. He's not sure if the color has some sort of symbolic meaning, but it doesn't matter a hell of a lot when you get right down to it, when they're streaked with your own blood.
Vox knows what this is. He also knows how this one ends, and perhaps, all things considered, that wouldn't be the worst possible outcome one could imagine.

His winning smile and knowing, 'I won't tell if you don't,' hadn't managed to convince them out of this ridiculous idea, which was how he'd found himself being dropped off by a bus – a bus, him, on a bus! – in the town centre of what might as well be called Bumfuck Nowhere.

His eyes flick down to his note cards. He swears he’d printed them in his best penmanship, atop one of the library's extra premium desks, but everything is spinning and he feels faintly like he's going to throw up. "Did you uh," he starts, letters swirling in his eyes. "Did...you fall out of heaven...?"
Genius prosecutor-in-training Miles Edgeworth regards him with a blank stare. Phoenix thinks now would be an opportune time for him to locate the nearest possible bridge and promptly jump off of it.
