Summary
Barry swallowed the lump in his throat. Why was he so nervous about this? This was Bruce, his friend, a man that he had known for years. “Would you be free later? We were thinking of going out for dinner and we’d love if you could come.”
Icy blue eyes snapped up to Barry’s for a split second before darting away. “I’m… I’m not sure if I’ll have time.”
Barry is the only omega in the Justice League pack. Even though Bruce is part of the team, the secretive man prefers to keep his distance and refuses to become part of their pack. This leads the others to feel like their pack can never be complete until the final team member finally embraces them. However, things take a turn when a new threat from off-world forces the Justice League to band together to overcome new challenges— and to unravel the secrets of their teammate's past.

A fire lit in Jason’s dark eyes as he uncrossed his arms in a flurry of motion and took a menacing step forward to point a finger at Bruce’s face. “I’m saying that you’re a fake! All you do is take and take and you get people hurt in the process. You’re so obsessed with the mission that it consumes you. And the worst part?” He paused, chest heaving with each word he spat, “The worst part is that you let it.”
“I know.”
Everyone whipped their heads toward Bruce’s softly spoken agreement. He was looking down, away from all of their watchful eyes.
“Bruce?” Tim asked, suddenly unsure of where this was leading. Usually, this far into an argument, Bruce and Jason would already be throwing fists.

Bruce rolled his eyes. Alphas. “Can you not do that? I have one of the world’s best security systems. Also, if you scratch the hardwood floors by dragging that thing, none of it will do any help in keeping Alfred from killing you.”
Clark stared dumbly at him as if barricading themselves into the nest was a perfectly normal thing to do. “You think so? I think he’d understand.”

It’s tucked away in the fortress, memorabilia to a life lived long ago, and he carefully swipes the soft layer of dust away as he picks it up and answers. It’s not an audio comm, instead, it acts as a beacon; the particular lilt of beeps ingrained in him so deeply that he won’t forget them until the day he dies.
