A low growl rumbles in its throat.
And Wei Wuxian goes utterly still.
It had been a point of contention between him and Jiang Cheng when they were children. Jiang Cheng had thought he saw no difference between a happy dog with a wagging tail and lolling tongue, and one with aggression in its body.
But Wei Wuxian knew—knows the difference. He knows because a happy dog is one he can run away from, duck behind Jiang Cheng, scramble up a tree and wail for rescue. A snarling dog is something that leaves him frozen.

Still, Binghe’s words made his shizun turn to him. “Binghe is…?” His shizun fought against the fugue the demon had placed him under to focus on Binghe’s eyes. “Anger?” he asked, his voice little more than a whisper.
He thought about shizun’s question, then of his silence, the halting way he’d admitted to what had happened the night before last. “Pain or fear.”
Shizun shivered, curling further under the blankets. The act seemed to wake something within him; he blinked down at himself, then gave a rueful twist of his lips. “Oh.”

Shen Qingqiu approached the bed. He didn’t know what possessed him to lean forward, closer, beneath the silken drapery, to look down at Luo Binghe’s sleeping figure. As expected, ‘Shen Qingqiu’ was cradled against him. Luo Binghe’s head rested against ‘his’ chest and he had a hand tangled in ‘his’ hair, as if to draw comfort from that cold, empty shell.
Shen Qingqiu stared down at that chiselled, attractive face. It was marred only by the shadows of sleepless nights beneath those long lashes. He reached out, tracing ghostly fingers along a high cheekbone.
Luo Binghe shifted in his sleep and Shen Qingqiu drew back sharply, like he’d been burned.

Summary
Letting himself get cursed may not have been the smartest thing Wei Wuxian has ever done, but he'd argue that it’s completely in character. So he should earn some points for consistency, at the very least. Besides, when the spirit had been explaining it, the curse hadn't sounded too bad. Maybe a little bothersome if he underestimated how many people felt strongly about him, but surely, surely, it wouldn't be enough to hamper him in the long run.
Let it be known that Wei Wuxian is an idiot.
Because, when he emerges from the dilapidated husk of the temple, he can't see anyone

Just him, his Suibian and his golden core, and the creature. At least this time he would die an honourable man. Maybe, this time some people other than Lan Zhan would grieve him. Lan Zhan tugged hard on the blue line that bound them together, and Wei Wuxian all but flew across the room, crashing into the bed with a pained groan and sinking to his knees on the floor. He supposed, slightly hysterically, that this must be something like what Jiang Cheng had felt when he had hit Wei Wuxian with all the force of a biting insect the day after his rescue.
"You have no spiritual energy."
"Haha, Lan Zhan, that's funny, because actually it's just that I --"
