    Lando was late again, by exactly one minute.

    Oscar glanced at his watch, then at him. “Late. We start tomorrow.”

    That set Lando off immediately. He hissed under his breath, furious, but careful not to shout inside the library. 

    “By a fucking minute?!”

    “Irresponsible,” Oscar said flatly, as if Lando’s outburst barely registered.

    Or, Lando Norris, a fourth-year business management student and captain of the university’s soccer team, is one failure away from being benched, which could also jeopardize his graduation. Oscar Piastri, on the other hand, is a third-year medical student, top of his class, a certified nerd, and brilliant enough to tutor. A university scholar that tutors for the money.

    Oscar is Lando’s tutor. Lando, used to getting away with everything, money, a stellar reputation, a name that opens doors, has never had to struggle to stay on top. Oscar despises people like him. He hates that someone can coast through life on charm and wealth while others, like him, have to work relentlessly for every scrap of success. Lando embodies everything Oscar loathes.

    When a body turns up on the southern coast of France, Max is assigned to a case that refuses to close. Evidence vanishes. Witnesses forget. Every lead circles back to a man who insists he is only a businessman, and a brother whose death no one seems eager to avenge.

    Between blood and the law, there is a space neither of them are supposed to occupy
    'a place at the limit', where pursuit becomes permission and silence is mistaken for innocence.

    Max investigates what he already understands and Charles waits at the apex, ruling what he cannot afford to confess.

    The question is no longer who committed the crime but whether Max was ever meant to stop him, or simply stay close enough to follow, long after the line has been crossed.

He hates him in a way that sits in his chest and crawls up his throat, the kind of hatred that makes his jaw ache from clenching and his hands curl into fists without him even realising he is doing it. It is dramatic and excessive and unfair, and Kimi knows all of that, but knowing something does not stop it from being true.

    “Well.. that’s quite a reveal.. What’s her name?” The journalist leaned in.

    “haha.. right.. they’re name.. umm. His name is Oscar.. Piastri..” Lando blinked a few times after the name left his mouth. Where in the world was this coming from? Lando hadn’t even messaged Oscar since their earlier encounter. He messed up.

    “Oscar? As in, the zookeeper guy?” the interviewers eyebrows perked up in recognition, cautiously looking around in disbelief.

    “Yes” at that, Lando felt a hand grab onto his forearm.

    “Alright Lando, time to go” The familiar voice of PR rung through Lando’s ears, but his loud thoughts overtook her voice.
