He was regressing.
Stede tried not to show his anxiety at the idea of taking his sick, traumatized and now regressed boyfriend to the hospital, and quickly got into his caregiver mindset.(Ed is scared of hospitals. Stede takes care of him while he regresses due to the stress. Izzy comes to help take care of Ed, but turns out he also needs to be cared for...)

Clark suddenly felt a little left out, a spark of curiosity igniting in his buzzed mind. "Is it 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 good?" he asked, his voice a little softer than intended.
Bruce's eyes slowly, 𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘺 turned to him, blinking even slower, as a lopsided, truly beatific smile spread on his lips. "Ya, babe. It's 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 nice," he murmured, his voice a low, soothing hum. "Helps ya think. Helps ya 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭."
Clark, feeling a delicious recklessness, somewhat second-guessed his previous refusal. He leaned into Bruce’s ear, his breath warm against Bruce's skin, and whispered, "Shotgun me."
