Claudia couldn't take the anticipation. "Gimme that," she said, snatching the notebook out of Lestat's hands before he could respond. He huffed at her but didn't otherwise complain, probably too caught up in that same anticipation.
"…and also used as a form of torture," Claudia read, shooting Lestat a pointed look.

Louis knew somewhere deep down that he was being a little childish, but he didn’t care. He didn’t care that Lestat didn’t need a reason to not want to look at his photos. He didn’t care that he and Lestat weren’t together, that it was his decision, and that Lestat wasn’t really behaving any differently than he had before. He didn’t like that Lestat was always hundreds if not thousands of miles away from him, making people laugh who weren’t him, performing for people who weren’t him, having sex with people who weren’t him.
He didn’t like it, but he wasn’t about to admit that to Lestat.

Lestat’s immediate reaction to Louis's question about the song is an emotional one: sadness, loneliness, anger. The latter being directed towards both his mother for leaving and towards Louis for asking. But as he starts to think about it, he realizes he wants to tell someone. That’s why he wrote the song, isn’t it? He doesn’t know where his mother is to demand why she abandoned him. The best he can do is sing about it, let strangers hear his questions for her and the pain she left him with. It’s just that usually the ones listening don’t seem to really hear it. Hear him.

Could he reach out and touch the light Lestat emanated even when he made no conscious effort to do so, or would he poison it with the darkness inside him much the same as everything else he touched?

So, around two hundred in total—the majority of them, sadly.

He looks up at Louis, mouth agape suddenly. Louis tilts his head and brings his bloody fingers up to his mouth, tongue darting out briefly to taste, and then it all makes sense.
