Summary

Fearful for their sons' well-beings in the face of duty and grief, their fathers bring them together in a bid for companionship. What follows is a story spanning nearly two decades, in which love, loss, and the fate of a kingdom weigh heavy between them.
While Dion struggles with the death of his mother and what it means to lead a nation, Terence learns that solitude isn't the safe haven he made of it as a boy. Their reliance on each other grows and so too do the burdens of war. When eventually the emperor's schemes take a turn for the tyrannical, Dion and Terence are left to salvage the soul of Sanbreque from the ashes he leaves in his wake.

Despite all they had been through, underneath it all he did not think he would survive if brought with him. All the smallest doubts. “And I must earn it by my hand, and mine alone.” The way he had coddled him and shown preference. In Dion’s mind, it was all a poison to a regular man’s chances.
Through oath, love, and tears, Terence obeys his Prince, but Bahamut knew not where he was sending him.
