I hear someone huff, and the indistinct sounds of movement. “H-Hallo?” My voice is annoyingly still weak.
There’s a startled yelp and then a loud clang. I try to look towards the noise, but unfortunately the other person seems to be perfectly in my blind spot. “Aw darn…” I feel my lips tug up into a smile at the noise. There's a pause before I hear "Oh my gosh!" and the sounds of a frantic scramble as a woman in an awkwardly fashioned toga made of bed sheets comes to stand next to my bed. Her eyes are wide and happy and her lips are pulled into a strange combination of a surprised “o”, a frown, and a smile. “YOU’RE AWAKE!”

Mel chews on the inside of her cheek, feels the gentle night breeze ruffle her hair, still loose around her face, thinks about Santos next to her onstage, loud and passionate and purposeful even in her drunkenness, so much more of her on display than Mel has ever seen at work, in all the time she’s attempted to get to know her.
It’s her first night out with a friend. She’s not ready for it to be over, so unceremoniously on this sidewalk outside the bar.

AKA your average simon-crashlands-on-Erid fic but with a fairly aquatic twist! Very gorey, I actually gagged while writing it which I think speaks to the tone of at least the first chapter. I'll be messing around a lot with the themes of humanity and the effects of being connected to something that hurt you. Will probably update semi-regularly if I don't get burnt out, but this shit has been plaguing my brain for a good while now so maybe we'll get somewhere who knows!!!

One such patient, Selena Corey, wishes to escape this world, where she is constantly monitored, injected, and shuffled about between her surveilled apartment and the newly established Wrenwood Rehabilitation Centre. In a deep state of melancholy and frustration, Selena soon finds the genuine connection she desires in a woman she’s already met once before, Grace Ashcroft, who’s been brought in to assist in the rehabilitation of Wrenwoods patients.
In Selena’s eyes the two were meant to fall in love and be together. But Grace, despite her own fascination with Selena, isn’t so sure, especially as ugly truths rear their heads.

All of that was, quite frankly, almost too much. She really was pretty impressed it had taken so long for her to have one of her freak-outs. What had ended up being the straw that broke the camel’s back was this: Grace had found herself unable to shoot a pretty zombie.
