Summary
Frodo fails.
The good people of Middle Earth succumb to the rule of the One Ring and its only master, Sauron. In his victory, he promises only a cruel decimation of the world as he reforges it in his image. Except, of course, his chief adversary needs to make things more complicated. Another bargain struck. An accord for a hand in marriage, in exchange for a fading chance to save Middle Earth from utter ruin.

“Please tell me you're saving the best for last.” Galadriel complained, once they were alone. The private rink her father had built for his children was cavernous and quiet, despite the natural light that reflected blindingly across the ice. The slightest sounds echoed from the high ceilings.
“Your next victim isn’t scheduled until ten.”
“Who?”
Elrond flipped over a page on his clipboard. “Oh, yes. Smith. Halbrand Smith.”
“Smith? Never heard of him.” Such a common, unremarkable name. Not like Noldor, which had come to mean something in the figure skating community. Something about Noldor and Smith as a pairs name made her nose crinkle in distaste.
“I guess I’m a little early.” A voice called from the far end of the building, near the back door no one ever used. She didn’t know how long he’d been sitting there, watching the show, but he crossed the length of the ice in a pair of hockey skates. A giant equipment bag slung over his shoulder as if it weighed nothing.

No matter where in her grove she rests she can always see it lurking there at the edge of her vision. She knows who waits on the other side. It has been many, many years since he last tried to gain entry, but he has always shown her a level of patience he extended to no other. She is not foolish enough to think that has changed.
It is to this private bower within herself that Galadriel retreats while she anticipates the arrival of the ring.

It is the wolf that speaks at first with a deep, spit-wet growl; but when Galadriel’s eyes adjust to the bleak starlight, the monster she seeks is human Halbrand again, leaning against a tree that quivers with fear. His eyes are bright and reflective as fiery opals, shining back at her where the rest of his body remains edgeless, smudged in nightshadow.
Her arrow points at where the hollow of his throat should be, but it does not spring through the air as she hoped.
“Tresspasser,” she acknowledges.

The loose sleeves of her nightdress bared her wrists, wherein her pulse raced. She was not unconscious of how Sauron – in the physical form of a Man – was drawn to these slight glimpses of her pale, bare skin. Her hands and wrists, feet and ankles. The line of her neck beneath her golden waterfall of hair. She had in nothing but the body she’d been born with the power to distract him, this great, dark being who was responsible for the slaying of thousands. Sauron couldn’t keep his eyes from straying here and there. There was a pit low in her belly that yawned and yearned at this knowledge, and for a moment, Galadriel felt her heart beat faster. She wondered if his senses were keen enough to notice.
The war against Morgoth is beginning to go poorly for the Elves, so Galadriel sets out to seduce their enemy's most powerful general. It turns out that Sauron is very easy to seduce.

Galadriel has her work cut out for her covering up the fact that the Noldor family's famous art collection includes several forged masterworks by her Uncle Fëanor. When the crown jewel of the collection, Fëanor's version of the sculpture the Venus of Valinor, gets loaned to a prominent exhibition, too much interest in the piece threatens to expose the family secret. Galadriel enlists the aid of rakish thief Halbrand to steal the piece before the truth of its origin can be revealed. But Halbrand has his own reasons for wanting the Venus.
