Summary
It wasn’t a shock that this was how Dream was reacting. He’d told Techno about everything Quackity had done, and if he didn’t want to kill the duck before, he sure as hell did now. He saw the way Dream flinched whenever Techno would talk with his hands, or how a string of frantic apologies would spill from his lips whenever the silence was too much.
Techno, truth be told, wasn’t surprised when he learned that Dream regressed. The man had enough trauma to fill a swimming pool, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t see it coming.

Aka the one where Dream regresses in the Prison after a bad nightmare, but his Papa is there to try and help him through it. (and then Pandas decided to keep going and now it's a whole series)

“Alright boys, you can keep watching after lunch.” The television shut off with a static sounding click. Tommy and Tubbo both groaned, Tubbo falling dramatically away from the screen in order to lay on his back. Tommy looked up at Puffy with pleading eyes.
“Five more minutes? It was getting good! They were gonna kick their-” Puffy shot him a warning look as a reminder not to swear, and Tommy deflated with a pout, “-butts. Please? Five more minutes?”
“You two shouldn’t be watching that kind of violence! You’re 16, Tommy. You shouldn’t be watching this kind of stuff.”
“I’m 17!”
“Not until tomorrow!"

50% of the population is born with superpowers, that lay dormant until each person's 17th birthday. Tommy's birthday is tomorrow, and though the orphanage that he's staying in promises to celebrate it, he's never been more excited to roll the dice and see what cool powers he gets.
Needless to say, things don't go according to plan.
Not if Dream, the most vile villain the City of L'Manberg, has ever seen has anything to do with it, at least.

Something tugged greedily in the back of his mind, a familiar fuzz telling him to slip, to let go of his worries for a couple of hours. He couldn’t, not without them. Not without Sapnap holding him in his arms, murmuring quiet words of praise as he peppered his cheeks with kisses. Not without Karl filling his favourite sippy cup with juice, singing soft lullabies to help him sleep.
He couldn’t regress, not without them.

Summary
Schlatt wishes things didn’t have to be this way, that he’d revert to being a child simply because he’s too stressed out to deal with adulthood, wishes he had other ways to cope besides this, that he could just function in a normal way, but he’s burned out, and when he’s burned out he always turns to regression.
He thinks of it as an ugly necessity, something he wipes from his mind after regressing, but relies on it in order to function within his own way of living.
Ted and Charlie show him another option than living in shame with his closest secret.
