The first time he overlooked without a second thought, assuming Moomin just didn’t understand what he’d been trying to do. The second time he’d actually had witnesses to the incident, which was absolutely mortifying. But this third time? He’d tried to do everything right and it still didn’t work.

The house was quiet.
It was always too quiet when Snufkin was away.
Moomin glanced up from his pirate adventure book- he had never really grown out of them- at the clock on the mantle.
When Snufkin did come, he would never admit that he had been waiting up every night since spring began, trying desperately to distract his restless mind with books and copious cups of tea. He could never sleep at night once he woke up from his hibernation and their bedroom window faced the back of the house, not the front, so he might miss him coming!
No, he knew that Snufkin would come any day, the faint whistling of his harmonica playing his new spring tune getting closer and closer, before he would meet Moomin on their bridge, catching him as he launched himself into his arms. He would chuckle and wrap his strong arms around Moomin, burying his mumrik paws in Moomin’s coat and pressing little fluttering kisses to his nose and cheeks. Then, he would finally tilt his head and kiss Moomin properly- “for good measure,” he had said one year- and say something along the lines of “I missed you, Dove.”Series
