Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”

His content little smile was long gone, replaced with shock and displeasure. He stared stupidly at Shane, mouth opening and closing like a fish as he struggled to get words out. “Shane, you— I— what?”Shane cocked his head sideways in that way Ilya always did when he was being particularly difficult. “What?” he asked. “Is there something on my face?”
His husband continued gaping at him. He could almost see the little hamster wheel spinning in Ilya’s brain as he tried to come up with words. Finally, almost a full minute later, he managed, “No, there is nothing on your face!”

“So you’re an alien,” Jungkook concludes once they’ve returned to the house. There’s no segue to it, no easing in—just a point-blank kind of tone that makes Seokjin blink at him unknowingly.
The ride back had been virtually silent aside from Seokjin guiding them back to the road they came on, his memory seemingly a bit better than the others. Jungkook and Taehyung sat in the back again, both awfully stiff, while Yoongi just focused on returning to the city.
“I’m not sure what an alien is exactly,” Seokjin admits yet again, rubbing the back of his neck. “But I’m not from this planet if that is what you mean.”
(Or the one where alien Seokjin crashes into Earth and finds something he didn't know he was looking for: a new home.)
